Now from what seems to be the consensus, since Unicare is discontinuing her specific plan, she gets a GI. Now since it doesn't officially end till 12/31, I would write it for a 1/1 effective date.

I was thinking that she may have a chance with the 65 or older and it may start on or after her BDay. I think since you can differ part B, that is where the older part comes in. They could join B when they are 67 and would have the 6 month period from the month that they started.

So since she had part B May 1 the month she turned 65 it looks like the 6 month GI has passed.

Again thanks!
They can defer B, but, they can't defer the 6 mo. GI.

Whenever you are in doubt about the answer to a question that directly involves a prospect you are trying to sell a policy to it is always best to call the insurance company you want to put her with and ask them the question. They are the ones that will receive the app for approval, not any of us.

You may find that different companies have a different answer to your question. I it always best to know the answer, direct from the company, before you send in the application. This avoids the embarrassment of having to tell the prospect you were wrong.

It may shake her confidence in you and you may not get another chance to find a company that might take her.

Let me ask this ? I have a female 66 yrs old whom has been continuously been insured under her husbands group retirement plan and has never had a med supp or MA. She has decided to drop out of her group coverage that she has been continuosly been insured by and get a med supp. this is ok, right?

Yes it is okay. However, she will not be entitled to guaranteed issue because she is dropping the plan, the plan is not dropping her.

She will have to be able to answer the heath questions on the app. Assuming she can answer the questions she will not have a waiting period on preexisting conditions.

In Ohio if someone voluntarily drops group coverage I believe they have GI into a Plan C med supp.

Thanks Ramiz.

I keep forgetting to put "in Missouri" when I post to a thread like this.

Some states like Ohio permit a senior to drop their group coverage, as opposed to the group dropping them, and have GI when applying for a Med Supp. I believe in those states the senior can only have a choice of Plans A, B, C, or F.

This is an excellent example why I keep suggesting to agents to follow up with a call to the insurance company they represent to get the final word on any question like this.

My post had the correct information for Missouri but the wrong information for Ohio. I guess I assumed the other 54 states were just like Missouri.

We all know the definition of ass-u-me.
