i think the part about must have sold something from 01/11 to 06/11 is comical...

what they are really saying is this: Lookit, if you jammed one of our overpriced plans down someones throat in the last 6 months you can now qualify for an easy bonus plan since we lowered rates 17%

Too bad Aetna is only competitive in....

Oh, that's right, nowhere.

Good for smokers, the obese, type 2 diabets but that's it.

That could be half of the population depending upon where you are.

True, true.

And just because their underwriting guide says they will consider it doesn't mean they will seriously consider it. Anyone have any luck getting a Diabetic through on aetna?

Once - 90% rate up. No meds, diet only. In their defense (I reluctantly say this) it could escalate to worse if the client didn't change their lifestyle.

Because Aetna's commission is a measly 4% for the first XX approved applications, I rarely write them. BUT, Aetna has been great with accepting people who've been turned down by my preferred carriers. Last week, Aetna approved a 5'11" 309LB client with only a 10% rate-up due to weight and a final premium that's lower than BCBS-IL or Humana, the two lowest priced HSA carriers in this area. Blew me away! What's really exciting is the $7.80 commission!!

But alas, I will not be able to qualify for the puffed-up Aetna bonus program because I didn't write any business between Jan 1, 2011 and June 1, 2011. Bummer... Last one I wrote was in 2010 for a lady with heart conditions.
