Agent in Alabama.
I have never sold health coverage so I'm a babe in the woods.
My adult son is losing his Obamacare with UnitedHealth
because they are pulling out of the exchange.

He is currently drawing unemployment and can not get
any benefits via the exchange.
United Health doesn't have individual coverage
in our state starting January 1st.

I will be helping him with the premium till
he gets back on his feet.

Any companies besides BCBS in Alabama that I can
contact for individual coverage for him?
Thanks,
Shooter

Why can't he get benefits on the Exchange?

Unemployment is likely not enough "projected" income for 2017. Therefore, it is saying he doesn't get any subsidy.

You could hire him to do some work then pay him on 1099 to get his income over the threshold. Just a thought.

Just because you aren't subsidy eligible, doesn't mean you can't buy a policy on the exchange.

(But I like the 1099 idea!)

Shooter, do you realize that your son has 3 days left to enroll in a plan for a January 1st effective date?

He has a SEP because UHC terminated his plan, it's about time for you to do something about it, don't you think?

All of the plans available on the Marketplace are listed at www.healthsherpa.com, by the way, you can get quotes in about 30 seconds.

All the plans listed on the exchange or BCBS.

He didn't qualify for coverage due to his low income.
I clicked the link you supplied.
It takes me back to the exchange after answering
a few questions.

Thank you for the help.

The only plans that might not be listed on the Exchange would be the Catastrophic level-they will be 20-25% lower than Bronze plans for him and basically the same coverage.

You can also try www.ehealth.com-since he has no income he will also be exempt from the penalty, you can do a short term plan for him with National General for much less than anything else you will find-STM's don't cover pre-existing conditions but are good basic coverage for anything else. A $5K deductible plus an Accidental Medical Expense plan would most likely be a good choice for him.

Why you don't want BCBS? Yes, they are the only company in some areas (area I checked for a friend). He can obtain max subsidy if the application is done in a right way, but complicated to explain here. Do you have medicaid program offered there?

If there is not a medicaid alternative, you should be accepted.
