Humana Cutting Commissions

Just received an email from Humana that they are following in UHC's footsteps and cutting commissions to 0 on new business after March 2, 2016, with a few exceptions depending on state.

Does this signal the end of the health insurance broker? What business will we be left to write when the dust settles? Any ideas for a new business plan after February 15th?

Was wondering if this is all major medical plans or just ones on exchange? Does this apply to group plans too?

----------

Got the same email and very upset! Both Uhc and humana paid commissions on a percentage basis. Guess that is no longer feasible.

They are still paying on a percentage basis unfortunately it's 0%

Humana playing the greed game....they claim they have no money to pay agents, meanwhile the SE regional sales manager just bought a $20 million mansion on Palm Beach Island.... PATHETIC!

aetna is probably going to fully integrate them for next season so it's probably a precursor to that.
at least gave fair warning and didn't do it until after oep - unlike uhc

says nothing about silvers plans...or are those at zero?

It does say "there are no commissions for any individual major medical plan with an initial effective date on or after March 2,2016 unless noted in the chart below" but you might want to call and ask. Could be an oversight on their part.

So I am thinking that anything during open enrollment with an effective date of March 1st will be paid at the same commission rate. Anything after that will be considered pointless.

Does this also pertain to group?

If you enroll a group in an Aca similar plan with uhc, you won't get paid on that either.
