So against my better judgment I am running a health appt today. I'm reading up on my plans, and UHC says the Saver 80 plans doesn't cover outpatient visits and prescriptions.

What exactly does that mean? If your not admitted then they pay for nothing past any network discounts?

why are u wasting ur time, running a health appointment? u bored?

It means that there is no insurance coverage for RX and some outpatient services (primarily doctor office visits). But you still have other OP services covered, such as hospital OP, OP DXL, and other. I would not categorize it as a "dog" plan, it does have it's place in the market.

I did that discount card idea Mark thought up. I signed this lady's biz up and began to have a conversation about life ins. Then she asks, "Can you do health ins?" Long story short, I'm gonna try and cross sell some life ins. But I gotta at least sound like I know what I'm talking about.:1rolleyes:

You'll sound very professional if you explain why you don't sell that Saver plan, and why you'd rather specialize in life insurance and refer her health insurance to a friend of yours in the business who specializes in health insurance.

I NEVER sell the saver plan, even if the client wants it, even if they tell me they'll leave and buy it from another agent or online. It's not worth the E&O, the bad PR, nor the knowledge that somebody out there is not adequately covered.

I had a guy call me a few years back. He bought direct from Golden Rule. A Saver 80 plan. Saved him a lot of money until he went in the hospital and then was discharged.

Paid exactly what it was supposed to while hospitalized.

Paid zip once he was discharged.

He called them to complain. Seems like he ran up something like $12k or so following discharge. Every OP claim (including Rx) was denied.

I showed him a REAL major med with another carrier and the premium was around $40/mo more than his Saver plan. He decided to keep what he had and pocket the difference.

Some folks never learn.

That's exactly right. Unless you know these health products inside and out, refer it to a specialist. You're wingin it now and that can be dangerous.

Hopefully you can find a licensed health insurance guru in your area (or the Forum) that you can pass referrals to and maybe they will feed you some life leads one day.

When people ask what you do, don't tell them you are a life and health agent, even though your license may say so. Tell them what you specialize in and they will appreciate your honesty when you send them to a true health professional.
