Switch Plans by 01/31/16

I have a client that wants to switch her off exchange plan. My understanding is that she can do so for a 02/01/2016 effective date for the new plan. Is that correct and if so what are the steps she needs to take to cancel her old plan?

Deadline for feb 1 effective date is Jan 15. But that's not the final deadline.

She can call and cancel her plan

Enroll or switch before 1/15 - effective date will be 2/1/16.

After 1/15, the deadline to enroll/switch will be 1/31, which will have an effective date of 3/1.

If they miss Open Enrollment and don't have a SEP after Jan 31, they can always apply for a short term plan.
