USA and International Combo Health Insurance

Transitions Feb 2013 from an employer group plan to their Cobra Plan. I have 14 months remaining.

I am now doing consulting work that is taking me most of the next 12 months to Singapore. I have looked at the option of a Cigna Silver International Health that includes USA coverage.

My question is this. Most of the next 12 months income will be taxed in Singapore. The remaining will be USA taxable. The USA income level would allow me to obtain a policy on the Insurance Exchange in Florida. Should I get one policy for International and buy the USA policy on exchange? What is the best cost effective way to do this?

Advice has been suggested that I stay on my current Cobra issued plan till 2014. I would like to move ahead with this project after October 1rst when the exchanges open. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

I am in my late 50's and a Florida resident.
