BCBS of Georgia Abandoning All Major Metro Areas

Just got the blast that for 2018 they will only cover 85 out of 159 rural counties in Georgia....both on and off exchange. This year they cover all counties. That eliminates all the major metro area counties. Wow.

That leaves nothing, but some areas with Kaiser and Ambetter......with Alliant in the NW region only. Basically it means everyone loses their doctor, and other than Alliant, goes HMO.

I thought that was public policy in Georgia? To pretend Atlanta doesn't exist.

Rather like Tennessee. The rest of the state would be happy to see Memphis just break off and float downriver.

Don't forget that the right would be happy if Nashville floated away with Memphis.

Where is Ned Ray now that he's needed? Some could benefit from Blanton.

Don, the link provided by Yagents has this observation.

People in metro Atlanta, for instance, will be left with a choice of just two insurers for individual coverage in the exchange: Kaiser Permanente and Ambetter of Peach State. Alliant is offering coverage in counties in North Georgia.

It is possible either or both carriers will offer off-exchange plans and there may be other carriers off-exchange in 2018.

I would be surprised to see Cigna, UHC or Humana anywhere in GA next year.
