The Dismantling of ObamaCare - Ongoing Updates.

Problem is I agree with JunkBoy on this one.... underwriting is gonna be a tough nut to crack

I have friends on both sides of the aisle. We disagree on much but it doesn't matter. I must be enough of a centrist. Those who live in the city don't have a place to shoot. Several came out to my cabin toting whatever they wanted. No one got shot.

Has anyone seen this? It's funny how they claim they want agents help but at the same time demonize us as working for our own advantage not in the interest of the client. They truly do not understand how the independent agent operates nor what we truly value.

My guess is they fear the website will crash and are looking for a way to farm out some of the volume.

Took this survey. Thanks for posting. May be pointless. The two states where I operate are dying slowly. UHC completely dropped out. Aetna dead. CareFirst lurking around but is giving us the ax. Evergreen quit the individual market. (Whose left? Kaiser and maybe "Cigna" they've been silent. Not positive what's up with Anthem)

Agents looking to work for more than $0 left the building some time ago.

People think we can wave a wand and make them agree to buy what isn't good for them. Fire us & they want our knowledge. Hire us and they're afraid of doing something stupid. Carriers only want us when they need us.

Carriers decided not to sell ACA but still wanted fingers in pie so they quit paying commission. That'll make sure sales stop.

Looks like my biz plan won't take shape until Nov 1st. Then, the gruesome 45 day OEP run. Nightmare ahead

This year, however, as long as an issuer provides a product withdrawal notice by Oct. 31 — the day before the start of the open enrollment period — "CMS will not take enforcement action against an issuer for failing to send a product discontinuation notice with respect to individual market coverage at least 90 days prior to the discontinuation," officials say.

This is a mess.

October 1: YES! We are renewing your plan and appreciate your business!
October 15: POTUS pulls the CSR money
October 31: Nevermind! We are out.

I see Healthsherpa emails going out on Nov 1........

The Nevada legislature has put a public Medicaid option on the governors desk. This plan would be offered on the exchange, same as any other marketplace plan.

I think if more states took this approach it would make the exchanges more viable and affordable for consumers and insurers. The reason why is with Medicaid you get what you get, Medicaid. But, you get something.

I'd like to state that I do not think Medicaid for all is a good idea, but for many people a premium based Medicaid plan would be ideal.

You can use a free market carrot (NV), or you can use a lib stick (NY):

The state is tying participation in the Affordable Care Act’s marketplaces to other government contracts. Insurers that exit Obamacare’s individual market would be cut off from government business including Medicaid, the children’s health insurance program and the Essential Plan, which offers cheap coverage to some low-income people who don’t qualify for other programs, according to a statement from the governor’s office.

I didnt see any mention of the estimated premiums in the article. Its really hard to find a doctor who accepts medicaid in a lot of areas.... not sure how it is in NV. Maybe it will create mandatory participation by all doctors? That actually might not be a terrible thing if it did.
