The GOP Claim that More Americans Have Lost Insurance Than Gained It Under Obamacare

A number of "horror" stories about how people "lost" coverage have been debunked, some got it back and some got way better coverage in 2014 plans.Of course no retractions will be happening, since the point is not to get the story right, but to sell ads and push political agendas on both left and right.

Georgia state employees are covered under a self funded plan (SHBP). Municipal groups and school systems can opt to participate in the SHBP or set up their own plan.

As of 1/1/14 the 650,000 SHBP participants lost their old plan options (those plans were cancelled) and everyone thrust into new Obamacare plan designs.

Since most group plans track on a calendar year I suspect there are quite a few people having their old plan cancelled, but those aren't making the news yet.

A confusing article.

1. This car dealer dropped the group plan.
2. Increased everyone's salary by $2,400 to go shopping for themselves.
3. Some went Marketplace shopping..and came out well.
4. Most signed up for another group plan that the dealership recommended.

If there is a new group plan, then shopping on-exchange isn't possible, if the qualification questions are answered correctly.

It is confusing because it is written by a journalist that doesn't understand anything about what is going on. This is who is reporting our news.

To be honest XRAC, most of us who follow this forum understand more about how the ACA works (and fails) than the vast majority of journalists, HHS employees, Congressmen, and state insurance workers. And, NO ONE can predict what's yet to come.

Read somewhere that only 34% of the 22,000 page Affordable Care Act legislation has been translated into actual Rules and Regulations. America's already afflicted with severe indigestion from just the first 1st course of this 3-course ACA dinner.

Feels more like a five course meal.
