Within the next week, Humana will be announcing an Early Renewal Option for small business employers (2-50 total employees). This new option gives employers the flexibility to request an early renewal date in 2013 or early renewal in 2014. Humana anticipates a higher demand of employers wanting to renew their medical coverage early, so the carrier has implemented a new process. All group interested in renewing early will need to contact Humana no later than four months before the new requested renewal date, allowing ample time for the renewal process.

Beginning next week, Humana will be sending brokers an e-mail outlining the program. The carrier will also provide you with a list of your clients’ in-force cases and preliminary premium information to show the possible effects of the Affordable Care Act - Adjusted Community Rating. The estimated renewal change range information is subject to change, but it’s a great way to start the early renewal conversation.

*Early Renewal Option has not been approved in Kentucky. In Georgia, employers must also make a plan change if they want to renew their coverage early. Colorado and Florida (1-50 total employees).
