Keep Current Plan for 2 More Years!

Virginia not allowing it without special exception:

Maryland not allowing it:

Haven't seen a word about it from any insurance companies yet.

Assurant is terminating all non-Grandfathered, pre-ACA plans at the end of 2014 per my RSD and information on my agent website regarding extension status-each one of my policies says 'No'.

As I've been saying, this year was easy..........next year will be the real test of whether I/we survive O'care. 1/2 my book is Pre-Aca, and AZ is disallowing extensions for every carrier, and FL is determined by each carrier. I heard Aetna is not allowing extensions in FL also.

They've got a few months to decide. My guess is they will weigh the LR on ACA vs "grandfathered" and decide if they want to roll the old stuff off the books. They have to figure how much they will lose to other carriers if they boot the old block.

Even if they plan on keeping most of the old stuff they have to estimate how much will be subsidized and more costly to administer than the old block.

Aetna doesn't really care about playing in this market. I suspect the ones that plan on bowing out in 2015 will non-renew their existing plans.

May 4, 2014

Illinois Department of Insurance sent out a notice on 5/2/2014 granting insurers the option to extend pre2014 individual and small group health plans through 2015.

Only plans that renew between 1/1/2015 and 10/1/2015 may be extended an additional year. Those that renew this year aren't eligible?

If companies decide NOT to allow the extension, they have to let the DOI know by 5/9/2014. (Lots of lead time...)

Wonder if that will lead to another short renewal option? We saw that in 2013. If you had a plan that renewed August 2013 they gave you a short renewal and changed your plan anniversary to Dec 2013. I suppose they could do the same with plans renewing Dec 2014, giving them an Oct 2015 renewal.

The state first needs to make an announcement. I read somewhere today that Colorado and 1 other state allowed for extensions.

----------

Goldenrule rep had list of states allowing for extension to 9/30/15 for Non GF plans written prior to 10/1/13:

FL - Yes
AZ - No
VA - No
TX - Yes
