Are any agents not in the indiv health market, thinking of getting into this market because there will be many that need policies? or will the exchanges be done without indep agents?

California has already written into it's law that it will allow independent agents to sell and be compensated in the exchange. So, expect a lot of neophyte competition initially.

Many state exchanges have expressly decided to involve the agent community. The first hurdle is over.

The second hurdle is the compensation. Many of the big carriers have shown their true colors with regard to how they feel about agents. They see them as a cost. The agent community has no one lobbying on their behalf (traditionally carriers did that for us before the internet and call center inside sales age emerged)

I wouldn't be surprised if the comp is a one time $50 enrollment fee...

The Comp will decide the competition. If it is low low low, then you will not have any competition. If it is high, then everyone and their mother will get licensed to sell IFP's

If the indy health market is your specialty, GET OUT NOW!!! GET OUT OF INDY HEALTH!

Concentrate on other products such as Med Supps, Life, critical illness, auto and home etc...

Unless you are ready, equipped and have to web tools to write personal business, leave the premises.

There are plenty of options out there. But to focus entirely on the indy health market is a no-no. And many people talked about this 2-4 years ago.
