Help in Ohio!             Go to Top

Currently, I am a college instructor and I've been considering going into sales for quite awhile. I live in Ohio and was wondering if anyone knew of some companies that would be good to start out with in my area? Also, if there are any that I should stay away from? Also, do you think it would possible for me to continue teaching part-time at the college while I was getting started?

Thanks!

A lot depends on whether you are going to retain your current job. If that is the case, you can rule out companies like Pru, MetLife etc...where you would get excellent training.

The other variable is the type of insurance you are referring to. If it is health...you may want to wait a few months and see what Obama has up his sleeve. If it is life or other products, maybe a local insurance agency will allow you to work for them. Training is one of the most important variables here.

Re: Help in Ohio!             Go to Top

I'm in Cleveland now. My current job has very irregular hours - mainly early mornings and afternoons a few days (2-3) a week with summer's off. I was hoping to keep it for stable income while I built up a customer base. I would also like to go with a well-known and respected company that offers good training and possibly a mentor of some type.

Great advice Chumps. Seriously, that was a great answer. I guess you are right about the twice per week deal. Haha. Talk to you on Tuesday.

Sounds good. I should be in a good mood following Monday night's Cavs/Hawks game! (Actually, the Hawks are a good team)

Re: Help in Ohio!             Go to Top

I started my life career with Western & Southern based out of Cincinnatti. The training was excellent for a new agent not a bad way to get your feet wet, they have an excellent Boot camp for a week all expenses paid. You are a career agent with the typical 600 a week salary and health insuance. The contract is set up that in order to increase your salary you really have to dump alot into the pot which shouldn't be hard working in Ohio but in Atlanta new prospects were always like Western & Southern who? I left after six months I needed to make more money but the training was priceless for me- great way to transistion to an independent agent.
