About real issues? What real issues, are they talking about?
I don't believe Huckabilly can win a general election... and I think he would be another Carter. An Obama (or Edwards) ticket with Biden as VP would be a hard one for the Reps. to beat. Huckabilly's only chance is if the Dem's nominate Hillary who carries more negatives than he does.
Al
One of the few things I can agree with you on in the last month or so, Hillary is a sure lost for the Democrats. Which would be a stake in the heart to both Clinton's and we done with them for good, or at least hope so, that is if she can actually win the nomination which I believe is likely out of Bill's hands now.
Like others I am at a total lost on trying to figure out who has a shot and who doesn't. I like Thompson, but as Fred Barnes said, if he can't say that in 30 seconds (as one of his soundbites tend to last 30 minutes) he is going no where. He is likely correct, sad commentary.
I'm perfectly fine with the Hildebeast as the nominee. She will be even more polarizing and prove her mettle, so to speak. The more people listen to her, the more they will be unable to stand her voice. The more they will not want to listen. The more they will think they do not want this crazy person to be President.
The funniest is when the Hildebeast launches her "I am experienced" crap. As if "being married" to name-your-profession gives you some sort of experience. Rocket scientists, anyone???
The only thing I know is for the first time since I've been of voting age I have absolutely no clue as to who the front runners are none less who has a real shot at winning the general election. I'm personally a Rudy fan and used to think he had a shot.
Rudy still has a shot, not with standing what the media has to say. He is strong in Florida, remember when Florida comes its winner take all, whoever wins Florida will then be the frontrunner as they will likely have more delegates then all others that have split smaller States. Plus I just looked, looks like Huckabee is closing in on Guilliani's lead in Florida.
Super Tuesday and we'll likely know how it is going to play out. Sad I think, the compressing of the Primary season doesn't really give the general public enough time to really get all that involved, either party can be stuck with a lemon after ST and no way or time to change the outcome.

As Obama advances he has learned how to play that card and has her trapped now. The theme of his campaign has shifted from "experience" to "change" so the more Hillary bangs away on her hundred years of experience when combined with Bill the more he just asks "does this look like change to you." Excellent move on his part. Most excellent.
Also did you hear his victory speech in Iowa? It is there on youtube. It was absolutely dynamite. He hammered over and over again about this being one America not red and blue and all of that. It was excellent. Given his unknown status, he has run an absolutely astounding campaign. (we will see how he handles the dirt coming up) and I dont know what it means for the long haul.
I won't be voting for him. That is another matter but do not mind giving credit where credit is due. Competing against the Clinton machine is not easy.

The picture will pretty much be in focus after ST but we wont know how things play out until we see what Bloomberg is up to. He could mix things up plenty again but the clock is ticking so he will either have to make his move or not- unlike this crapola early on when people speculated forever about Gore or Thompson entering etc. Bloomberg will need to stay out or enter and hammer it hard right off. That could end out getting Obama elected. The libs will solidly vote for Obama but the conservatives and moderates would split between the Republicans and Bloomberg. Yowzer, try that one on for size. Could work for Hillary too if she gets it.
At the start I was thinking Obama was unelectable. Now, if he plays his cards right and other's play their cards wrong he could be the next prez. And ya know what - he's a solid guy. I'm a repub but I'll tell you now if I had to vote Dem it would be Obama.

Wow! It's not that I don't like Obama, I really do. President, though? Commander in Chief? Chief architecht of the economy? Naw, he's not ready for it.
Mmmm....not that Bush has been spectacular in the economy part, though.
Al, we didn't have a "credit crunch" under Carter - that was Paul Volcker choking INFLATION at it's finest, good God, the man sacrificed himself and his career in order to get us back on track. And what were we left with, Alan Greenspan, who history will show was truly a terrible Chairman - he helped create the stock market bubble prior to 2000 with his loose monetary policy, then created helped create the housing bubble of recent years, again, with loose monetary policy. Not to mention the collapse of the dollar under his watch. Bernake may be a half-wit but he didn't create the mess.
So speaking of the mess, we've got a really really big one on our hands, economically. I'm not seeing where any of the candidates could really help on this. With the exception of Mitt Romney, but he has that whole religious element that I have difficulty with. There's no one on the Democrat side that I believe has any semblance of what is going on. For Pete's sake, people still think that the good times were rolling because Clinton was Prez - what a crock!

Honestly, I don't think Bloomberg would drain any more off the Republican Nominee as he would off the Democratic Nominee. His strongest appeal will be in the North East, NY, NJ, MA which has been a Democratic stronghold. Any of those NE States get flip and you could be looking at a Republican landslide, of course if they can hold the South and most of the Western States. I really don't think he is getting in, more of a side story for the media people. If he does, it'll make an interesting election cycle just that much more interesting.

Yeh. I havent sized the Bloomberg factor yet. He could pick up Democrats because that connection is there. At the same time, he is a billionaire and can talk and attract the run-government-like-business crowd that the Republicans usually tap into. Sort of a Mitt Romney without the Mormon factor.
I realize that his appeal may be limited to the Northeast (for now anyway, that is what campaigns are for is make local yocals national and he has the bucks to do that). But what has to be mixed into the equation is that we have had elections of late where only a few hundred or thousand votes can make a difference and he certainly has the potential to hurt either the Republicans or the Democrats by that amount. Which one I dont know yet. I dont know where he is on the war or immigration for example. He is just a classic loose cannon at this point and he will either make a move or not by the middle of February after he sees how Super T shakes out.
