How would an independant agent go about getting contracts for auto insurance? Who are some of the best people to use in central illinois? Any info is very much appreciated!

I have no idea about central illinois. Central California, I can help you out.

Assuming you are new to the business, you'll find it pretty tough to get any direct appointments to write any P&C. You'll be better off going through a marketing company, where you'll gain access to multiple carriers, and usually a multi-rater. It has some downsides, such as loss of binding authority, but it will get you started.

There are LOTs of places to go. I use sais.com for things I don't write directly. It gives me access to a lot of markets. I own the business I write through them, and can move it anytime I want. You'll have to find something similar that works for your markets.
