How many policies does an average agent actually sell in one month? My office has 6 agents. And I wont tell you how many each one sells, but I seem to think that a couple of them are just way too low to be considered agents! Any thoughts?

Preferred Personal Lines 20-30 units

1 unit equal one car or one home

Non Standard Auto 50-100 units based very fluctuating volumes in this market.


If you are getting good quality preferred 15 units woud be OK

Just my opinions interested in others out there.

I sell non-standard auto, but don't push it much, so I can't speak to what the average volume would be...

I pretty much agree with Gulliver. 5-6 'items' per week is an okay pace for a producer. 10 is better and reasonable production.

Of course, I think things are a bit slower right now. There are fewer 'catalyst' moments that make people shop insurance, i.e., fewer home sales, non-existent car sales, etc. You can still work around this, but it's not as easy.

If you have 6, you know what they are averaging. I would always be looking to replace the bottom one or 2.

The goal for myself (as a producer) is 3 a day. It doesn't matter to me if its preffered, non-standard or somewhere in between. Hopefully my marketing has allowed me to generate more of the first category.

I took my numbers and worked them backwards until the 3 application goal was created.

It may be adventageous for you to take each agent (on an individual bases) and figure out how much they cost the agency + need to make each month. Divided by their average premium per case and commission, retention percentage, blah blah blah.....

Once you have done the homework and discovered each agents red line and green line, sit down with each and set some mutual goals.

If they can't average the set production goals each month......you know the rest.

With HO I would say 45 a month knowing that a 5 or so will drop off or be rewritten. But I am new so I could be wrong
