Re: I Heart NY!             Go to Top

My fiance is from New York, I asked him and he said that since Guiliani cleaned up 42nd street the hookers are not what they used to be so sorry that is not in the running of things to do.

He said to go to Springfield Boulevard in Queens and go to Gino's Pizzeria, they have great pizza. (He can't wait to go visit his mother he said he is going to eat at every corner pizzaria from Long Island to the City.

Is this your first trip? If so there is tons to do. All the touristy stuff, etc. He said almost anywhere in Little Italy and then Chinatown is right by that.

Now you are making me want to go up there also, but we will have to wait until after Vegas, our wedding, our honeymoon and then Christmas, etc. so it will not be until 2009 before we can get to New York.

Have fun and if he thinks of anything else in particular I will let you know!

You could call Elliot Spitzer for some advice on that. He knows his way around and has plenty of time on his hands these days.

Oh MY... Quick vacation and NYC don't exactly mesh... There is SO MUCH to see and do, one could spend a month there and only have a good start.

My wife and I were married in NYC 20 yrs ago... so we have a special affinity for the place. She also has a brother and sister that live nearby and work in the city, so we go back often. In fact, she was just there two weeks ago and we go back in August for 5 days to visit and partake in the culture.

Some of the highlights that we enjoy:

The Palm Restaurant - no better steak or experience... The waiters (all men) will take an order of a table of 20 with no note pad, and place every item right where it is supposed to be... There are 2 Palms in NYC... (we had our wedding night dinner at PalmTwo; superb). Learn about The Palm Restaurant, one of the top steakhouses featuring prime beef gourmet steaks. You can also buy restaurant gift certificates, find recipes for steaks and buy steaks online

Katz's Deli - A total experience... Huge, both the place and the sandwiches. You gotta wolf down a corned beef sandwish and a knish... Katz's Delicatessen New York
Katz's Delicatessen - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Best Dive in NYC: Lucy's Bar- Like you are stepping back into 1970 or so... and the food and drinks are cheap as 1970 too. Great burgers, huge sandwiches, fries, etc... juke box... you would never know you are in Manhatten...
Lucy's - New York, NY, 10009 - Citysearch

Harry's Cafe and Steak... casual, pub type spot that is divine. Harry's Cafe and Steak - Coming Soon

Strolling Central Park, visit the site of WTC (somber), shopping 5th Ave, Times Square people watching, street vendors, rise early and visit the Today Show at Rockefeller Ctr, tour the NBC Studios there too (enlightening), China Town, Soho District, Empire State Bldg, Garnd Central Station (there is also a great casual restaurant right under the roadway @ GCS, excellent for breakfast or lunch; Grand Central Cafe, I think it is called).

And the list goes on... Have a great time and I hope this helps some. Rest up before you go and plan on action packed long days and nights.

Where do you plan to stay while in the city...?

Re: I Heart NY!             Go to Top

Thank you, wonderful ideas. Right in Times Square. I've been there many times, but there are always people who have had wonderful experiences and that's why I posted. Last time we were there (also in Times Square) we ended up eating at TGIFriday's once too often (too discombobulated to explore). We're planning to revisit Tony's di Napoli on 43rd, Italian family-style - puts Maggiano's to shame!

On the radar is Cafe d'Artistes and Aureole (if they have the prix fixe lunch menu, otherwise not). I last visited the Russian Tea Room many many years ago, and the remodel looks wonderful, so I think perhaps there. Katz's looks wonderful!

Thanks! Keep 'em coming!
