I need all of your help. I worked my rear end off recently at BLC and I quit today. My FTR is a pain in my rear. I dialed 423 times last week and that wasnt even enough. I was emotionally burned out after that. Then I had issues with some things they wanted from me that I refused to give them. They wantd to work my PROJECT list I refused. If I was going to sell my family it was going to by on my terms not their. They did not accept this answer and wanted to go "sell" them for me since I wasnt convicted enough or that I didnt love them enough to sell them myself. When I was asked to hand over my Project list I refused and quit 10 minutes later. On the bright side I think I gathered quite a bit of useful knowledge while I was there. Now can anyone point me in a direction to a good solid company to get started. I am not against going and getting my P&C. I currently have my life, health, and annuities licenses. I like the insurance biz but not the way they want it done. I think I am too ethical to work for them . Any help will be truly appreciated.
Have you considered becoming a fully independent agent? From what you've posted here, it sounds like you'd be happier with holding the reins a little more and having more freedom to work the way you want to work.
The downside is, of course, a lack of structure, training, and support. But if you're not happy, then you're not happy. Period!
I was thinking the same thing. Go independent. I know I couldn't work for a company I love being self employed. Although sometimes that paycheck coming in no matter what looks good. That being said I haven't taken a paycheck in more than 2 yrs and don't think I will even though times are pretty hard here as I was on the wrong track (working for AFLAC) now I work for my self.
I should have listened to the folks here and ran the other direction but I learned a lot from AFLAC so not all is lost LOL.

So I guess I can look into going Indy. I just dont know how much goes into be indy. How do you go about it. I am going to have to do alot of research on that. Bankers was a horrible style of selling. I have had people tell me know more than a dozens times and have my FTR in my ear yelling at me to set the appt. I know you have to overcome a few objections but geez there has to be a limit! LOL!

Sell Medicare Supplement policies. Low learning curve. Low initial investment. If you have a good work ethic begin selling when you get appointed with a company.
Damn, that sounds like an ad. "Earn $150,000 first year working two days a week four hours a day from home while surfing porn sites."
All kidding aside. Med Supps are easier to sell than any other kind of insurance. A great product to lead off with and cross sell other products to your new clients.
Give me a call and at least explore it. The call is free and so is the information.
Someone help me out here. It still sounds like a sleazy ad.

THanks Frank I needed a little pick me up. I am a little upset that I had to walk out today because of a choice over ethics. Now I just dont know where to go or do. I dont want to give up on the insurance career but I have a really bad taste in my mouth after my first experience with it. I guess I need to take a few days to think. Thank you to the people that have left a comment thus far!
Well if makes you fill any better I can say you likely did the right thing walking out of BLC it in my opinion is not the best place to be working. If you want to look at the independent side of the business I would be glad to talk to you about it sometime. We work with some great companies and have some good lead sources and programs in place.
I may take you up on that. I am going to shut it down for a day and then come up with a new plan. The thing that stinks is the money I set aside for bills is pretty much gone so now I am not sure how I can start again. I dont need to make a ton but at least enough to keep the lights on! LOL! I am willing to listen to any good advice.
Metlife, American General, Western Southern, and Monumental all pay salaries at the start of your career with these companies. Sound like that could be a consideration at the moment. BLC is not a a good gig.
I have an interview with American General next week. I will come back and tell you what they offer.

Do you have to sign as exclusive with the co. you listed?
Thanks,

I know what you mean about getting frustrated when you put your heart and soul into something, and you get stomped on. I think the other posters here are right, you should look at going independent, or at least get with a broker that will give you more leeway. I would be happy to give you some advice as I have recently gone the independent route and have learned some hard knock lessons.

Thanks for all of the replies. I think I might look into the indy route. I may get in touch with some of the folks that offered the advice. Thanks again. This forum has been a great asset and I appreciate all the help and support I have received here.
I'm new to the industry as well. I started working for an office in Lake Mary, FL the last week of June and got my license a few days after. They closed their doors July 22 and myself and a few others are working out of Daytona Beach, while I live in Orlando.
It's a murderous drive up there, but I'm willing to do it. I like the people up there and I like the product lines they offer through the various companies we contract through.
I've been contacted by a recruiter from Western & Southern and while I've never heard of them, one of the more experienced agents I work with and respect suggested that I interview with them anyway just to see what they're all about, even if I want to stay with Great American.
From what I've read on here they seem to be a good company to work for when you're learning the business. Do any current or recent W&S agents know of they ask you to sell to your friends and family? I've read that they pay you a training salary based on your old job. Do they have any additional costs associated with employment there? (e.g. appointment fees, monthly dues outside of E&O @ 1mill etc...)
My office has never asked me to sell to friends and family (unless they came to me first), though they did suggest I reach out to them for referrals. That seems logical to me, but it's been a challenge as the vast majority are in Pennsylvania or Guatemala.
I digress. Any input from current or former W&S agents would be greatly appreciated. I'm sure pvellenga would benefit from this information as well.
