I would be *delighted* to earn you a commission if you could help me out...             Go to Top

Bottom line: I'm 29, 5'9", 235 lbs., large frame (I don't know if that could possibly make a difference)...been somewhat heavier in the past. Live in Ohio. I'm on two meds for hypertension, and it's now in a healthy range. I was turned down for one of Assurant's products...maybe CoreMed, I forget, and I was also told by an agent who works with other companies that with my combo of age, build, and hypertension that I can basically get *nothing*. So I'm on an Anthem short-term plan for now.

I'm self-employed, I have somehwat of a nest egg to protect, and all I need is real basic catastrophic...$10K deductible or more would be fine, $150 or higher premium per month would also be fine. I've *never* filed a health insurance claim in my life, and for the time being, my health is really pretty good, even though in the longer term I need to get my weight down. I think I could get a pretty positive letter from my doc, especially considering how successful my BP meds have been. I'd even take some riders...even if *everything* cardiovascular was excluded, at least I'd feel better being covered for accidents.

So...any ideas? Any more information I could give that would be pertinent? Am I totally screwed??? Like I said, I would be eager to earn somebody a commission if they could help me out...this is causing me a huge amount of stress.

I know an agent licensed in Ohio - had him run a quote for you. These rates are within a dollar or two . . .

ANTEX - Catastrophic Only

Non HSA - $10k deductible - $120 a month - $7 mill max - $2 mill per occur ( can add a $1k deductible outpatient rider for $16 )

HSA - $2.5k deductible - $95 month - $7 mill max - $2 mill per occur.

Of course subject to underwriting - but any ANTEX agent can help.

Good luck . . .

Tom

Why would someone buy health insurance from a second-tier carrier?

Ohio rates are inclusive of Ohio for ANTEX - regardless of zip code. I googled "ohio zip codes" - it was pretty hard - but it was easy.

2nd tier? Says who? You?

ANTEX utilizes the same PPO Network as most other "players" - PHCS.

In addition - they've been around for almost 100 years, are A rated carrier and they pay their claims.

If you feel the need to sell your clients name brand at name brand prices - go for it.

ANTEX is solid as a rock.

The guy was crying out for help . . .

Typical response from the same peanut gallery . . .

Insurance Agency America Lawsuit Attorney | Lawyer Texas National Business Association Members Reach $5.8 Million Settlement in Insurance Action

Texas National Business Association Members Reach $5.8 Million Settlement in Insurance Action

The parties have reached a settlement apparently valued at $5,850,000 in an action filed against the Insurance of America Agency, Inc., the National Business Association, Inc., the American National Insurance Company, Inc., and the American National Life Insurance Company of Texas on behalf of all persons (1) who obtained certificates of insurance from American National Life Insurance Company of Texas, Inc., or American National Insurance Company, that were the subject of a trust agreement in which those companies were the administrators for the National Business Association insurance program after October 12, 1996, or (2) who were over eighteen as of July 1, 2003, and were insured under certificates containing a co-pay and wellness benefit rider offered by American National Life Insurance Company of Texas when notices issued in their state of residence that the rider was to be deleted. Persons who have not received notification, but are eligible to take part in the action should contact class counsel as soon as possible. American National Life Insurance Company of Texas and American National Insurance Company will provide those members of both classes $40 wellness benefits per year for 2004, 2005 and 2006 to be exercised on or before October 31st of each of those years. Claims must be filed by November 15th of each of those years to be considered valid. Individuals who only fall into one of the two classes will receive three $30 wellness benefit certificates subject to the same terms. “Wellness benefit” means a reimbursement for up to the certificate amount for charges incurred by the certificate holder for routine physical exams and polio, DPT and MMR immunizations, HIB vaccinations, diphtheria and tetanus boosters, vaccinations for flu and pneumonia, and TB skin tests. The wellness benefits will be payable in addition to any other insurance coverage. They will not be assignable, and they will be evidenced by three numbered certificates, which are redeemable by complying with the claims procedures indicated on those certificates.
Additionally, also in exchange for dismissing the lawsuit and releasing the claims made in that suit,
The National Business Association will discount the dues of class members by $3 per month for 12 months. Likewise, any class member who chooses to join the National Business Association may take advantage of the same discount.
The judgment was finalized at a hearing held on January 8, 2004.

OK, Mr. Five-Months-In-The Business,

The better quality "players" don't "rent" PHCS, they own their network.

AIG has been around a long time and paid their claims too.

Obviously you took the gentleman's height and weight ratio into account? Does he qualify for a standard rate?

Other rates besides ANTEX'...(all 10k deductible, 100% co-insurance, "432" zipcode)

Anthem Blue Cross $51.43 a month
Medical Mutual $46.99 a month

So American National's $120/month rate is MORE THAN DOUBLE (not to mention the coverage has more holes and limitations than Swiss cheese...).

Do you bring this same level of professional expertise to your "final expense" business?

His build caused a rate up. Not sure of the % - but it's reflected in the quote.

Hey - he asked - I provided.

He'll choose or he won't.

It took what - 5 minutes? Man - what will my friend do if he doesn't accept . . .

Gee Tom, your previous post made it sound like you were an ANTEX expert...("they use PHCS"!).

"His build caused a rate-up", is a response from someone that doesn't know what the hell they're talking about.

Tell me, did his meds cause a rate-up too?

What's that saying?

Anytime there is two meds treating the same illness its a huge red flag. Sit down with your doctor and ask some questions on how you can get off of one of the drugs.
