Harken Health Opening In Chicago for 2016

But bad news for 2017:

-Going to a narrow regional network
-To see a Dr in whatever network they have, will have to see one of theirs at their 'clinics' 1st. If go straight to a Dr even in the new network, will be OON.

Which sounds like an HMO even tho their plan in IL are registered as PPO's

I put about 50 in Harken for 2016, have had calls complaining scheduling an appmnt with a Dr at 1 of their places can be 3 weeks out

They are however opening more locations (6 new I believe) - all in high rent areas. Economic discrimination... none on the S Side of Chgo for instance

Harken Health has come to grips with how horribly expensive it is to cover people under Obamacare. Harken announced today that it will not be on the Illinois exchange for 2017.

Full Story: Harken to exit Illinois Obamacare exchange - Chicago Tribune

KHN "Chicago Tribune: Harken To Exit Illinois Obamacare Exchange
Harken Health is abandoning the state's Obamacare health insurance marketplace. Harken, a subsidiary of UnitedHealthcare, said Thursday it will not offer plans on the exchange next year. Insurers Aetna, UnitedHealthcare and Land of Lincoln already have announced they won't offer plans on the exchange next year. "It's just another reduction in options for Illinois consumers," said Phil Lackman, CEO of the Independent Insurance Agents of Illinois. (Schencker, 9/29)"

From an insurance industry perspective: What went Wrong at HARKEN Health.

"But an independent broker in Atlanta, Susan Morris, said in the article that Harken “did a poor job of marketing the plan to agents and brokers.” She also said that her own individual customers weren’t crazy about having to give up their regular primary care doctors to use Harken’s staff doctors instead."

Actually, Harken, as a broad PPO, *did* let customers keep their regular primary care doctors. The great majority of them were in the general network. Of course that option worked counter to the model, but it provided a helluva lot more flexibility and choice than most Obamacare plans offer...which likely helps explain why they were slammed with losses.

Received the below letter from Harken Health today. They will offer OFF-Exchange plans in 2017. But I think the commission is 0%...Right?

"Harken Health has made the decision to no longer offer on exchange individual plans during the 2017 Open Enrollment Period. We sent letters to on exchange members last week informing them of the decision. On exchange members who want to stay with Harken in 2017 may enroll in an off exchange plan. Current members will continue to have coverage through December 31, 2016.

We remain committed to our innovative model of insurance paired with access to relationship-based care and we look forward to continuing to offer plans to individuals and employers who purchase coverage outside of the exchange.

If Harken members have questions, please advise them to call a Membership Assistant at 866.610.0116.

With respect,
Marcus Robinson
VP of Sales, Harken Health"

Like giant UHC cares. They wrote it off as a failed experiment. When they dropped the big PPO network they offered less than immediate care stores do - which are now on every other corner
