Perhaps they could also lobby for more DIVERSITY on NBA & NFL teams. Surely Larry Bird & Pistol Pete Maravich aren't the only white boys who can (could) play basketball.

My dad had to quit school during the depression an help support his other 11 siblings, ended up getting a job at the local paper mill(some of his best friends up there were black) he died in sept. 00 of lung cancer caused in part to the asbestos at that paper mill. I just came back from town a couple hours ago paying med. bills and other household bills, I think I got maybe enough money to make it until the next renewal check hits my bank account and I haven't paid my mortgage yet. Worried,yes, crying over it, not a chance...I can get out there tomorrow and the next day and the rest of the month and sell me some supps. and I WILL get back on my feet.(if GOD willing), so my dear friend I am anything but affluent, but I am a proud white man just like the civil right leaders tell the blacks to be proud black men and I don't think that I am being a racist any more than the next proud person.
Nice thread. Racism is a very touchy subject. I believe that black people are more racist or have more hate than the white people, especially older black people. I am tired of hearing how bad black people have it.
I have had several jobs and seen black people get waaaaay better treatment than whites. Companies will let a black man get away with anything because if they fire them they will have a racism law suit. Thats rediculous but true.
No matter what race you are, you still get treated far better than gays do. Look at all the hate crimes. I am glad I am a white man, and I know from experience that at a job, I will get fired for something that a black man wouldn't.
The point to my story is, who really gives a crap? I like people of all races and all sexual preferences. I am more uncomfortable around gay people but I do not do anything to judge them. I love gay jokes and racist jokes, who doesn't? I was cracking up about the whole coon comment, but im not racist. I have black friends. There is definetly double standards out there and blacks need to GET OVER IT. They arent the only ones mistreated and most of the time they are the ones that turn something into racism that wasn't meant that way at all.
The pathetic idiots at NBC and others are twisting in the wind on this one. They (Russert, Williams, Matt, O'Donnell and others) have been fronting this Imus guy for some time now. Now they are condemning him, not like this isn't Imus like, Imus and company are borderline crew to say the least. Unlike Rush, Imus and his crew claim to have the Liberal Crown of Righteouness, now I'm not sure where the media can go or pretend they are simply spectators? Russert is his Boss being the NBC News Director or what ever you call his position, so Mr. Russert has what to say? Heard Matt Laurer (?) was attacking him on his show, now isn't that the same company that employs this Imus guy? Why doesn't Matt take his indignation to his bosses, like say Russert and the Board of NBC? No in fact Matt L. is if I remember correctly a frequent guest of Imus.
Want to see racism just google earth any U s city and there probably is about a 98% chance there is a MLK blvd., Road, cul de sac or something along those lines. Try finding a Robert E. Lee highway outside Virginia. Heck we got someone trying to sue a local school right here( I went there) because the mascot is Rebel yet there is a Martin Luther King School in all 50 states!! I think we are all missing the point. The operative term in the above quote is, "shock jock". He is suppose to say things like that, his producers probably wrote that statement for him. That is the kind of publicity those stations thrive on.
He probably told them he wanted to take a vacation for a couple of weeks and to give him the time off they came up with this "stunt". All he has done is garner more listeners and start arguments among friends. The station can't afford pay for this kind of publicity. And yes, they view it as positive publicity.

Just a few years ago there were protests by American Indian groups against the Atlanta Braves, Cleveland Indians, Washington Redskins, etc.
Eventually blew over.
Personally, with all the "reverends" calling for boycotts of anyone using racially & sexually derrogatory comments, I will be glad to know that my ears will no longer be assaulted by booming rap music that is degrading to women (especially mothers) and white folks. This is true in many if not most instances. Where it does not apply is when advertisers start cancelling their sponsorship or advertising on a program which is exactly what has already happened with Imus. They most assuredly *do not* view any publicity as positive if it results in loss of revenue.
