There was a suggestion that outrage only occurs when minorities are involved and I stated that, for example, if you called a group of white women basketball players from a prestigious university a bunch of whores don't count on not having to pay any consequences. Think about it. Sometimes there is more than one injustice going on at the same time in this world. Not everything can be countered by pointing out some other injustice.

They certainly pointed out this injustice didn't they?

That is thoughtful of you indeed. However, I am already similarly enrolled with the winning team so it probably would not mean as much to me.

Black people are in the S.O.C. as well as D.A.R.(Daughters of American Revolution), call the U.S. House black caucus and see if any whites are in it, the answer is no. A white lawmaker ( I forget his name) tried to become a member after he was elected last year and was told that only blacks could enter. I am a white taxpayer who contributes to that organizations existence in the form of taxes to pay their salaries yet my representative can't join..I'm insulted!!! not because he's not in it but because it is soooo hippocritical.

Good solid Christians are subjected to sexual content on t.v. every night and everyone's comment to them"change the channel if you don't like it"' small children watching violence again "change the channel" or put a parental lock on it ,rappers calling for people to kill cops, Jesse Jackson finding them young men in Raleigh guilty before a trial,
================================================== ==
Those points are all well taken, and many conservative evangelicals and others consistently argue that Christians and more family oriented people need to do more to let advertisers and networks know who pays the bills in this world. I don't think any of us want an economy or a society where everyone starts foaming at the mouth over every thing as in some Muslim countries but where there is a consistent pattern of hate speech or put-downs because a person might be Christian, minority or whatever there is nothing wrong with letting people know how the marketplace works or could work. It is always sort of tragic when a public figure puts their foot in their mouth and it is totally out of character for them- but with shock jocks who stick a hot poker up someones butt everyday and profit by seeing how offensive they can get without being fired it is a different matter. Stop being a liberal wuss by referring to his "rights" all the time. Let him take care of himself. There is nothing going on that he did not volutarily sign up for and the the government and the FCC have not said a thing or interfered at all.

Imus simply went until he found his match, otherwise he would have just kept going. When I was a kid in junior high there was a big kid who was several years older and he used to bully us and smack us around. One day a couple of us beat the son of a bitch within an inch of his life and he stopped doing it. Was it fair for a couple of us to go after him at once? Who cares. Who the hell said he defined the rules. You take your chances when you think you can wipe your feet on someone because you think they do not have any power. As the Indians said, "Sometimes you eat the bear. Sometimes the bear eats you. Nothing liberal about it. 100% libertarian.

There's nothing policital about this. Imus smacked around some people with his words and now he's getting slapped back harder! If he can't take the heat from his comments maybe he should pack it up.

Yes, you can call my wife a ho. I can also punch you dead in your mouth.

looks like I got someone's goatI am a libertarian my friend, I registered as one about a month ago, there's not a liberal bone in my body I can assure you of that...A libertarian believes in freedom to speak your mind in an open forum w/o having his buutt kicked within an inch of his life; I too had to fight more than a few bullys in my life and of course ; win or lose; that's when you gain respect and they won't bother you anymore; until the next bully comes along. I was called four eyes, people taunted me with fatty fatty 2x4, did it hurt my feelings, hell yeah but it didn't scar me for life( I hope not anyway) no teacher was fired, even though some were aware.

Let's just agree to disagree because my neck bones and collard greens are almost done and then I need to go to the hardware store to get some new loggin chains to put my "porch swing" back up

Alright, well even though you guys down there bitch about all these liberal laws in the country, you have some pretty liberal laws yourself. I heard you have a law there in Louisiana that says that even though a couple may be divorced they still continue to be brother and sister. Must be that Napoleonic Law or something.

I think we still have a law on the books that if you commit suicide, your body will be hung in the town square until you decay.

No, that is just what you read in the Louisiana history books. Hint: not all those people who were hung in the town square committed suicide.

Now your trying to rewrite history, how liberal of youa lot of states have ignorant laws. In Pennsylvania there is a law on the books that if your driving certain rural parts of the state at night you have to get out of the car every mile and put up a rocket flare,in Michigan a woman,s hair belongs to her spouse, she has to get his permission to go to a salon, pittsburgh has an ordinance that prohibits womens from sweeping dirt under the rug and in NYC women can be fined $25 for wearing clingy or tight fitting clothing. You can see that there were indeed some pretty ignorant people in our past outside the South. Go to legalzoom.com for more silly laws.

Axed. I'm not sure if he should have been fired. This is not a free speech issue - that would mean he would have been arrested or fined by the FCC. He was not.

As NBC news pointed out last night we can remember that Jimmy the Greek was fired for stating black athletes were genetically superior to whites. James Watts of the Reagan ear was fired for the "I have a black, a woman, two jews and a cripple" comment.

As far as "shock jocks" being fired for comments - too many to list.

John, you have your views and I respect them but I think it was a double standard issue. Like I've said I am no fan of Don Imus but to allow two hypocrites like al sharpton and jesse jackson to dictate what we say on t.v. is rehensible. We all can agree on what he said was racist(when was racism outlawed) and sexist but once you start censoring what a person can say or the opinions that one can have where does it end.Just because the Fcc did not arrest someone does not mean a crime did or did not take place, it simply may mean that for political reasons they don't want to touch this "hot potato".

You start passing laws or allowing public sentiment to dictate things you may want to consider everyone of us has "issues", for example most states are banning smoking in restaurants, w/o writing a theisis here on what's wrong with that what is next, outlawing children under 2 from public places, outlawing nursing a baby in public(here here).

I love humor but I don't joke about a person that can't see or a parapalegic or someone with a mental disorder but I have used the expression "blind, crippled or crazy" a few times. Should we outlaw that too.

It amazes me how many "jocks" there are out there that try to be Howard Stern and Don Imus wannabes!! My original trade (job) out of college was radio and being a DJ, going to college I saw many newbs who thought it would be cool to try and be a shock jock. I did radio for many years, just couldn't get over the turnover and firings from year to year though. A lot of it has to do with the corporate BS as well, so I'm actually glad I got out of it on full time basis.

The point is this, just because your in a position to say something stupid and exercise your "free speech" doesn't mean you should!! Yes you can say inappropriate things and push the envelope, but you have to make a judgement call which Imus didn't!! I just so sick and tired of people taunting the whole "Hey man, it's free speech" BS. Yes it's your right, just be smart about it and what you say. You would think someone in Imus' position would know better, but then again some people never cease to amaze me! By the way I still do radio on a part time basis here in Denver to keep me busy, I guess once you're in it it's tough to get away from it. Can I give a shout out to anyone?? LOL!!!

Time for Jackson, Sharpton to Step Down

Pair See Potential for Profit, Attention in Imus Incident
By JASON WHITLOCK

I’m calling for Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton, the president and vice president of Black America, to step down.

Their leadership is stale. Their ideas are outdated. And they don’t give a damn about us.

We need to take a cue from White America and re-elect our leadership every four years. White folks realize that power corrupts. That’s why they placed term limits on the presidency. They know if you leave a man in power too long he quits looking out for the interest of his constituency and starts looking out for his own best interest.

We’ve turned Jesse and Al into Supreme Court justices. They get to speak for us for a lifetime.

Why?

If judged by the results they’ve produced the last 20 years, you’d have to regard their administration as a total failure. Seriously, compared to Martin and Malcolm and the freedoms and progress their leadership produced, Jesse and Al are an embarrassment.

Their job the last two decades was to show black people how to take advantage of the opportunities Martin and Malcolm won.

Have we at the level we should have? No.

Rather than inspire us to seize hard-earned opportunities, Jesse and Al have specialized in blackmailing white folks for profit and attention. They were at it again last week, helping to turn radio shock jock Don Imus’ stupidity into a world-wide crisis that reached its crescendo Tuesday afternoon when Rutgers women’s basketball coach C. Vivian Stringer led a massive pity party/recruiting rally.

Hey, what Imus said, calling the Rutgers players "nappy-headed hos," was ignorant, insensitive and offensive. But so are many of the words that come out of the mouths of radio shock jocks/comedians.

Imus’ words did no real damage. Let me tell you what damaged us this week: the sports cover of Tuesday’s USA Today. This country’s newspaper of record published a story about the NFL and crime and ran a picture of 41 NFL players who were arrested in 2006. By my count, 39 of those players were black.

You want to talk about a damaging, powerful image, an image that went out across the globe?

We’re holding news conferences about Imus when the behavior of NFL players is painting us as lawless and immoral. Come on. We can do better than that. Jesse and Al are smarter than that.

Had Imus’ predictably poor attempt at humor not been turned into an international incident by the deluge of media coverage, 97 percent of America would’ve never known what Imus said. His platform isn’t that large and it has zero penetration into the sports world.

Imus certainly doesn’t resonate in the world frequented by college women. The insistence by these young women that they have been emotionally scarred by an old white man with no currency in their world is laughably dishonest.

The Rutgers players are nothing more than pawns in a game being played by Jackson, Sharpton and Stringer.

Jesse and Al are flexing their muscle and setting up their next sting. Bringing down Imus, despite his sincere attempts at apologizing, would serve notice to their next potential victim that it is far better to pay up than stand up to Jesse and Al James.

Stringer just wanted her 15 minutes to make the case that she’s every bit as important as Pat Summitt and Geno Auriemma. By the time Stringer’s rambling, rapping and rhyming 30-minute speech was over, you’d forgotten that Tennessee won the national championship and just assumed a racist plot had been hatched to deny the Scarlet Knights credit for winning it all.

Maybe that’s the real crime. Imus’ ignorance has taken attention away from Candace Parker’s and Summitt’s incredible accomplishment. Or maybe it was Sharpton’s, Stringer’s and Jackson’s grandstanding that moved the spotlight from Tennessee to New Jersey?

None of this over-the-top grandstanding does Black America any good.
We can’t win the war over verbal disrespect and racism when we have so obviously and blatantly surrendered the moral high ground on the issue. Jesse and Al might win the battle with Imus and get him fired or severely neutered. But the war? We don’t stand a chance in the war. Not when everybody knows “nappy-headed ho’s” is a compliment compared to what we allow black rap artists to say about black women on a daily basis.

We look foolish and cruel for kicking a man who went on Sharpton’s radio show and apologized. Imus didn’t pull a Michael Richards and schedule an interview on Letterman. Imus went to the Black vice president’s house, acknowledged his mistake and asked for forgiveness.

Let it go and let God.

We have more important issues to deal with than Imus. If we are unwilling to clean up the filth and disrespect we heap on each other, nothing will change with our condition. You can fire every Don Imus in the country, and our incarceration rate, fatherless-child rate, illiteracy rate and murder rate will still continue to skyrocket.

A man who doesn’t respect himself wastes his breath demanding that others respect him.

We don’t respect ourselves right now. If we did, we wouldn’t call each other the N-word. If we did, we wouldn’t let people with prison values define who we are in music and videos. If we did, we wouldn’t call black women bitches and hos and abandon them when they have our babies.

If we had the proper level of self-respect, we wouldn’t act like it’s only a crime when a white man disrespects us. We hold Imus to a higher standard than we hold ourselves. That’s a (freaking) shame.

We need leadership that is interested in fixing the culture we’ve adopted. We need leadership that makes all of us take tremendous pride in educating ourselves. We need leadership that can reach professional athletes and entertainers and get them to understand that they’re ambassadors and play an important role in defining who we are and what values our culture will embrace.

It’s time for Jesse and Al to step down. They’ve had 25 years to lead us. Other than their accountants, I’d be hard pressed to find someone who has benefited from their administration.

IMHO Sharpton and Jackson has zero to do with Imus getting canned. 100% of the decision to axe him came from advertisors pulling out an internal pressure from black employees/management of NBC and CBS. Remember there's a black member of the CBS board who was interviewed and was personally insulted by the comments.

YOU TH MAN YOU TH MAN!!! Those statements are so true for it did boil down to corporate America bowing down to sharpton and jackson, it would have blew over 10 seconds after dum us said what he said BINGO!!!

Snoop Says Rappers And Imus Are 'Two Separate Things'; Talks New Comp

"It's a completely different scenario," said Snoop, barking over the phone from a hotel room in L.A. "[Rappers] are not talking about no collegiate basketball girls who have made it to the next level in education and sports. We're talking about ho's that's in the 'hood that ain't doing sh--, that's trying to get a n---a for his money. These are two separate things. First of all, we ain't no old-ass white men that sit up on MSNBC [which announced Wednesday it would drop its simulcast of Imus' radio show] going hard on black girls. We are rappers that have these songs coming from our minds and our souls that are relevant to what we feel. I will not let them mutha----as say we in the same league as him."

Snoop did say, though, that the media needs to treat Imus as it treats some MCs (or football players, even).

"Kick him off the air forever," he said. "Ban him like they did [Adam] 'Pacman' Jones. They kicked him out the [National Football] League for the whole season [for numerous violations of the NFL's personal-conduct policy, including multiple arrests], but this punk gets to get on the air and call black women 'nappy-headed ho's.'
