I’ve sold insurance for the last 4 years in California as an agency producer. I really like what I do but have decided I want to open my own business. I spoke with Farmers and State Farm recruiters and originally decided to go with Farmers. But now I have been thinking more about being an independent Agent.

Here is my question…. I am mostly interested in selling auto, home, and business. For those of you who are independent agents in California what are some of the companies you like writing insurance through and how difficult would it be for someone who has experience but no book of business to get appointed through them?? Also, are there fee’s involved and are they significant?

Good luck with this question. I posted two similar ones to no avail. I think there aren't very many IA's on this forum, or if there are then they are not very willing to share information. I had better luck registering with the Association of Independant agents for my state. I was able to find some contacts that have pointed me in the right direction. Also IA magazine and the Small Business Association have a wealth of information. Good luck in your venture, and let me know if you run into any good info!

Maybe just not many P&C IA's in California on this Forum. Who knows...Maybe that means something...
