My STM client's grade school child is participating in gymnastics and cheerleading. Their STM policy excludes those sports. They would like coverage on the order of $10K for the typical ER/treatment of an injury. An indemnity plan would be helpful. It would be OK to do for the parent and child. Pre-ex not an issue. The school has no coverage to offer. Suggestions?

The Petersen International STM coverage excludes all but a list of sports, and excludes school sports. Their way of handling sports not on the covered or excluded list is to change child rate on family coverage to rate for child only, and request underwriting exception. If parents were concerned about a serious injury, that would be the best STM solution on this plan. My client bought the plan for lower costs, so will not go that route.

The network on the Petersen plan is quite good, so this is not a knock on the plan. There are more carriers on the list than for our local BCBS plan.
