Purchasing Book of Business

I'm new to this forum and would like some advice.
First off I have been working as a producer/csr in a
small family P&C agency for several years. I started
out as salary employee until recently and now am on straight
commission. Currently I have no ownership of my business
I write. I would like to have same ownership of my business,
the owner who is family would be willing to talk about this.

My question is or questions are how do we go about doing this?
Since I wrote the business do I still buy from him at the standard price for a book business or is it lower? I have my thoughts but would like to hear others advice that maybe have
been in this situation. Any advice will be greatly appreciated because I would like to keep this from being a family mess.
Thanks

Family mess is going to be difficult.

1st why do you want to own your block?
This will lead to family thinking you are going to leave with the block.

2nd what is your compensation?
Do you feel you are not being treated fairly?

3rd how much business are you writing?
If the agency is carrying you then you have no leverage.

Unless you represent 20% of the agency total block you should reconsider and start generating more business.

I am looking to purchase an independent book of business in philadelphia area does anyone know of a book.
