I have my Life and Health Licensed as well as my series 7 and 63. I have completed all my annutiy carrier certifications but i dont have any designations such as RIA , FA, or Financial Planner.

i built up a good med supp business over the past 5 years. This past year i have been transitioning to more retirement planning, protection and legacy products such as annuities, single premium life insurance, LTC -Linked as well as IUL's.

I have been on numerous trainings for these retirement type products and have a good understanding how it all works . i am working with a few good IMO's to help me with cases.

Since i will be dealing with retirees in products such as annuities and other various Life insurance products to help with retirement planning what titles can i have on my business card without violating any state insurance regulations.

Can i use: retirement specialist, retirement advisor instead of just licensed agent. any specific title that is good that does not require a designation? Licensed Agent i feel downplays all that i can offer a client it seems.

You may be able to use "Financial Advisor" depending on your state. You should also be able to use "Financial Consultant" so long as your b/d approves any designation/title you use.

I would stay away from any title that says "Senior"... such as Certified Senior Advisor. Yes, that is a designation, that (unfortunately) has been brought through the mud a few years ago.

Even if you are the "Sr Financial Advisor" in your office... I would avoid that term.

RIA, FA, and Financial Planner are not designations.

You are WRONG about the RIA=Registered Investment Advisor. It is a designation. You damn well better be registered if you want to use that designation. If you manage $25 million or more you must be registered with the SEC. If you manage less than $25 million you do not have to register with the SEC but you are still under their control. You do have to register, however, with the state Securities Commission (or similar agency) in your state of domicile and each state where you do business.

No. RIA is not acceptable to put after one's name.

For example: DHK, RIA

It is NOT appropriate and is a violation of SEC regulations.

RIA is a registration with the SEC or State. You can use the TITLE "Investment Advisor Representative"... but you cannot use "RIA" or probably "IAR" after your name.

Check with compliance and/or your licensing materials.

States: Advisers violating rules by using ‘RIA’

No, you are WRONG completely.

#1 - Individuals are NOT RIAs. Individuals are IARs (investment advisor representative).

#2 - Individuals CAN use "IAR" as a title, but not "RIA."

#3 - The AUM limits are now different. It is $100MM to register with the SEC. Below that is with the state(s).

This is why it's just better to go to WORK vs spending all this time and effort on what 'name brand" or 'designer' label to put on your business card.

Stop using your wife's "real housewives" way of presenting whom you are, your $40 business card "title" isn't as important as the 'designer' that made her purse, so cut it out.

I know some of you guys want to 'project' an image but this ain't Hollywood.......... so stop California dreaming only an *** chooses you BECAUSE of the TITLE on your business cards.

Move on to more important stuff, like whether or not to pay extra for the gold foil.:1tongue:

Can i use the title retirement advisor or retirement specialist with a Life and Health license only?
