SEO for Insurance Websites

Moz does not have a regular forum you can post in. You need to be a member and pay 99 a month. It's not a forum layout, more of a QA system.

Here is the URL. (I can't post live links yet.) Ask an SEO Question | Moz

Actually the Warrior forum has a whole section called the Offline forum which is for local SEO. But be careful with G+ Local advice there. Many are more internet marketing types, not Local search specialists so they don't always keep up with Google's changing rules. Still some good info there.

But the leading forum for local search advice is my "Local Search Forum". Not here to self promote, but it would be very helpful for you guys.

Every single Google update, change and bug is posted there by many of the top leaders in the industry plus we discuss ranking tips and tricks all the time. It's huge with tons of posts so a little hard to get through, but if you grab the RSS feed you can stay on top of new tips and tricks as they are posted.

Local Search Forum

It's on Vbulletin like this one, so the features should be somewhat familiar.

The other "must read" for local search info is Mike Blumenthals blog.
Understanding Google Places & Local Search

Hope the info helps,

Ive reposted this so the links show. Thanks for the info Linda.

Thanks Sam, I missed it. Sounds interesting.

I agree, if you know how to leave a bread crumb trail and feed the spiders you can get pretty fast ranking increases.

The problem with most small business websites though is they don't get much traffic, so Googlebot does not visit that often. Most people just make site improvements and then sit back and wonder why it takes so long to get re-indexed.

But the other thing with Local algo is, you can do the best SEO improvements and still not budge if you have violations or problems on the Google Places side of the house, or if you tripped a filter that causes a ranking penalty.

I'm curious if he goes into any of that. Let us know if he posts a recording.

Hello everyone;
My first post on this forum.
I have invested considerable time and a little money in setting up a website and starting to learn and implement SEO.
My site is; NEOhio insurance agent dot com.
I used a free Wordpress theme and basically self taught myself how to set up the site.
Of course, I have had zero return in the way of leads from the site so far.
I know some agents say their site is only for credibility, prospect research, etc.
Thats fine, but I want leads.

Any feedback, will be appreciated. My goal is not to give quotes from the site (that is kind of a scary concept to me). Just getting names and numbers.

My brother does SEO freelance work, so I am not without any resources, but I don't like to bother him with things I am should be finding out myself.

Again, feedback is welcome.

Keep your expectations low my friend. Everything starts with keyword research - The people searching the terms you intend to rank for. If no one is searching your terms, you won't get leads. And believe me those local type terms don't get nearly as many searches as you might hope.

Then you move on to competition. Who's ranking above you for them, and why? Then, in the event you do get a reasonable of visitors it takes conversion of them to actual leads by way of your call to action (lead form). This takes continuous testing, often called A/B testing to see which form actually generates leads.

You can try Google's keyword planner tool to see how many people search your terms, again don't get your hopes up and certainly don't pour a ton of money into SEO to rank for terms that no one is searching for.

Hope this helps.
