Stock Photo, No Watermark

How do you choose photo's for your website? Google/Bing search or some other source?

If a photo does not have a watermark, is it safe to assume it is public domain?

there is a way to filter google images to only show the ones that are ok to use.....

1. search for an image on google like you normally would.
2. click "options" and then click "advanced search" from the drop down menu.
3. on the advanced search page, scroll down to "usage rights".
4. click on "free to use, share or modify, even commercially".

this will sometimes whittle your choices down to bare bones compared to the unfiltered results. but at least you know you'll be safe from fines or legal issues.

Thanks Dan.

Using Google search in Chrome, the process was slightly different.

Search images
Far right click "Search Tools"
Click "Usage Rights"

I was using firefox. didn't realize the browsers were a bit different.

Bing might have the exact same filter as well. I'm just not familiar with Bing.

But I might start looking if I knew they had this filter also.

Graphicriver.net is a pretty good source at prices much cheaper than iStock, Getty and the other big guys. The selection is a bit more limited, but you can grab a nice, high quality image for a buck or two.
