Except you can prove they exist. The only "proof" of god is that you believe.
God only exists because people believe there is a god, and in some cases, many gods. If there were no people, there would be no god - not the other way around.
People used to believe the world was flat. Doesn't make it so. I might believe I'm a great looking example of mankind. Certainly doesn't mean a thing.

To truly evaluate all the truth or evidence that is before you will take awhile but good luck with that dude I will see you in the hills of Tibet. I think you exploited the truth with the word belief but dont let fanatics and beliefs stray you from finding the real truth which can be only yours. I came to see that our existence itself is proof of something greater but certainly not a profit churning idol of some sort as there are many replications of that idea that many hope has some level of reality to it.
The more its specified the further away from truth we get.
That's my take.

That my take.
Witch? I think you described Rick perfectly, at least according to Al!

I was just getting ready to change it but I will let the elephant bounce some more.

God: Hey Peter, look at that atheist down there, he doesn't believe in me!
Peter: Doesn't change anything, does it?
God: Nope
What??
"what if god was one of us---hit the bong like some of us---do you think he rolls his own?" that weird Al guy is off the hook LOL
Religion has done more to divide men/women and cause war than any other form of belief in history. Remember that 911 was perpetrated by men who believed they were doing gods work....

Hodaka,
You are exactly right. "RELIGION" has done more to divide. However, those that believe in Christ shouldn't be professing "religion". They should be professing a relationship. Religion is about a bunch of do's and don'ts. Rules and regulations. Striving to earn something that you can't earn. Relationship is about loving someone even when they mess up. Accepting them where they are. Learning from others.
There is nothing anyone can say or do to change a person's mind. But I do know this, love compels us to change. And for those who believe, there is no greater love than that which Christ has for us. His love is the same for those who don't believe as well.
Religion is filled with dogma and selfishness and self righteousness. Relationship isn't. People can deny Him all they want and that's ok. But that doesn't change the relationship others have with Him.
The church as a whole has failed miserably at exemplifying who Christ really is. Unfortunately, it's the loudest voice that gets heard and categorizes all of Christianity. The church has done a great job at condemning others while not taking inventory of their own sinful nature. I think the world understands completely that the church hates the sin. But what the church has done a poor job of doing is actually loving the person. That's what Christ does. He offers grace and mercy, not condemnation. The people He had the biggest problem with were the pharisees. These were the ones with the self righteous hearts. Much like the church today. No wonder so many people are turned off by the church.
It's not my job to point out someone's wrongs (what I may wrongfully perceive as wrong). My job is to be changed by His love for me and in turn accept others where they are without judgment or condemnation.
There are so many parables that illustrate His willingness to overlook our faults and love us anyway. It's a personal journey for all of us. Some may never believe, and that's ok. Maybe God's grace is big enough for that person as well. I don't know, I'm not God.
For anyone who'd love to see a great parody, just watch below. It really shows some of the differences in the "religious" and the person striving for a relationship. There are actually 6 of these parodies. If you want to see more of them, just go to youtube and do a search for mac vs pc parody. I think they're great.

In history we have a few individual's that are an enigma:
1st is Homer, there is no real poof of his existence, yes we have books with his name as the author, but there is no reliable biographical information about him.
2nd is Moses, here too we find no poof, only in religious writings and books. There is no mention of him in any Egyptian writings at all.
3rd is Jesus, same as Moses, the only reference is in religious writings and books. Here we find no mention of his existence in Roman writings.
One would think that we would find references to these individual's in writings outside of there followers. Remember that the Illiad was the "bible" before the old/new testament and the Qur'an were ever written. And now today that (the Illiad) is considered "mythology".
Makes one think how will this be viewd in 1000-2000 years from now?
But if you are a Christain, then the end of the earth is going to happen in your life time, and Jesus will make his return, and the 4 house men blah blah blah ,....

I have no idea if the "end" as you say it, will happen in my lifetime or not. I doubt that it will, but again, I'm not God. But let's pretend for a minute that none of it is true. What's the worst that has happened? I lived my life attempting to serve others. Is that a bad thing? Now let's assume it is true? What does that mean to those that didn't believe?
That is a rewording of Pascals wager. It always comes back to proof. Creationist say the earth is 6000 years old, Noah loaded up the Ark with every known species of insects ( billions) mammals, (10's of thousands) built a massive structure out of current techniques( reed)(he and his 3 sons) made pens and put enough food and water to last a year. Thats a lot of water. Then they feed the creatures and cared for all of them daily. He and 7 other people,
Now every person known to man is related to him, All colors and nationality in less than 5000 years. The beauty of science is that it admits that new evidence is available to change the theory. RichardDawkins.net - The Official Richard Dawkins Website
Down here in Florida we have our hands full keeping the church out of our governments.
Now they want religion taught as a theory in science class.
Thankfully the specialty license plate "I Believe" with a cross on a stained glass window was voted down. My city commission insists on praying before a public meeting and the Liberty Council (think Jerry Falwell) has offered to pay for the law suits against the city. Just wait till the Atheists get on this.
America has been run by the moral majority. Look at the morals of this country.
How can we have free will if there is a higher power to thwart our will? I don't get it.
I AM SO GLAD THAT I LEARNED TO LEAN ON MYSELF. Everyone should try it.
Premise - God is all knowing. I shoot you in the head. Apparently god must have known this was going to happen.
Result - I am only doing god's will your honor.
I should of been a lawyer.

There's no sense in getting into a pissing contest, but it amazes me how some will mock another person's beliefs. What gain is there to mock what another person believes just because you don't believe the same thing?
