When you apply for appointment with a company you give them permission to do a credit check. Does that initial permission, say done 4 years ago, give them permission to periodically obtain your credit report whenever they wish? Just noticed Lincoln National ordered my credit report.

Probably.
Read what you signed and see what it says.

Companies (not just insurance) are always wanting to protect themselves.

i would not worry about it. if they find something you will have an opportunity to give them an explaination. but a bankruptcy could give you a problem

I doubt carriers are different from other industries. When you give permission to check your credit history it has an expiration date (I believe 90 days). It is not open ended.

Obviously if you want advance commissions they have a right to see your credit history. Same if you are collecting premiums, especially if you remit net.

Beyond that it is just another tool in an attempt to decide if you are worthy . . .
