Die Without Life Insurance

Funeral homes give the poor a direct burial. It's just something they have always done as a service to their community.

Some counties have a small amount they pay the funeral home to do this. Most don't.

So what do they do in areas where the funeral homes don't do this?

Probably cremation and/or donation to science.

I don't know where that would be. It's possible that someplace cremated them though.

Body donation is a whole other thing.

Newby, your explaination is similiar to telling restaurants in the area they have to donate meals to poor people.

How can you sell FE or pre-need in an area where all the poor people know that don't have to be responsible and try to prepare for their demise? They all know the funeral homes have to give them a FREE funeral (using your explaination).

No wonder FE mailers only return 0.6%. Most of the people in your area know they will get a free funeral/burial.

Some people have pride, honor and love their family members.

This is that last way you can show they how much you loved them.

It is just the right thing to do.

Take Care of Your Family!

Some people always want a handout and someone else to pay their bills.

Greg, this isn't my area. This is nationwide. This is how it's done.

They don't get a free funeral. They get an indigent burial. The city or county provides a grave space and opens the grave the funeral home provides a cloth covered plywood casket and a concrete grave liner. They are buried. There is no funeral or visitation. There is no preparation of the body.

This is not something funeral homes promote but they all do it.

Some families are well aware of this system and the deadbeats take full advantage of it but the more responsible family members see a shame with being buried this way (on the dime of others) and buy insurance or preplan through the funeral home.

This is not new or regional. It's the way things are done.

Forcing poor people to cremate would be very rare if it's ever done. And forcing the poor to donate their remains is unheard of.
