Re: Looking for a Job             Go to Top

Well... first off you might need to change your mindset. If you are looking for a Just Over Broke (Job) then you are in the wrong business. You should have the mind set of a business owner not of a employee..

Secondly, who are you appointed with to sell (what companies). I would also have to ask if your agency will not give you any "monies" why did you sign up with them to begin with. Let me guess, they "promised" that you could make 100K working 20 hours a week?

I think you need to decide if you wanna "work for the man/woman" the rest of your life or do you wanna run your own Insurance business. If you chose "B" you need to spend an entire weekend reading on this board.

Good Luck...

Re: Looking for a Job             Go to Top

I am appointed with all the major players in the Green Bay area. I was a P&C agent with the company when the life/health agent was let go they offered me the book of business and told me to rune with it. The one thing they forgot to mention was that the agent that left did not have a non compete. He AOR almost the entire book.
I do think of this as my business ME INC. But I must rely on them for marketing money and they will not release any for the life health department.

Re: Looking for a Job             Go to Top

ME INC, and how is that working out for you?? You do realize they "forgot" to mention the non-compete on purpose right? So, what would all the "major players" in Green Bay be? The "major players" does not reveal much information, what you consider to be "major players" and what everyone else considers to be "major players" could be very different..

Is this a nationwide agency or are they a local agency just in the Green Bay market?

If you have absolute zero money for marketing, then you will either have to start cold-calling or start going business to business..

This proves once again, always ask about their release policy upfront and get it in writing! before you sign anything!

Clvndrocks,
I think that you are pretty full of yourself. Not knowing what I do. My attitude is great I am just looking for a company that will back me in what I am doing. If I had the money to go out on my own I would. But that is not possible at this time. So if you do not have any positive advice keep it to yourself!

You should re-read all of the posts because you are not listening. If you are waiting for someone to post what you want to hear you will have a long wait. The majority of the posters on this board will tell you the truth whether you want to hear it or not. If you are looking for a JOB try Careerbuilder or Monster.com. If you want help in building your ME.COM tone down that "good attitude" you think you have, put more effort in on your part (more searching in this forum), and cut the whining when a crusty old pro takes a swipe at you.

You have to realize that nobody is gong to GIVE you anything, you have to earn it. As an IMO one thing I look for in my people is the person who is willing to take the initiative to figure it out on their own. But when a person asks an "intelligent question" it gets my attention; remember the KEY word is INTELLIGENT. Marketing is one of the key things that sets you apart from everybody else. Door knocking is the cheapest and for the most part pretty effective. Remember this is one of the oldest sayings in the insurance business:

"Your attitude in life will determine your altitude in life."

Huhtala2, believe it or not everyone on this board is trying to help you. You have your defenses up high that you can not even see it. It is as simple as this you either buy leads or you start cold-calling on the phone or in person.

We actually have a local celebrity on this board who, had to start going business to business once he left mega. I believe he average about 2500$ per week doing this, he goes by the name of "health agent". Did going business to business suck alot of times Yes im sure it did, do I know young agents who do this today, are they successfull, yes they are. Like it was mentioned before, to make it in this business you must earn things, they are not handed out.

So, I believe you know what you must do... Even if you somehow find somone who will give you "free leads" or "monies" for marketing. You will find out that those leads were not exactly free, you paid something for them.

Re: Looking For An Insurance Job             Go to Top

Thanks for all the info. I will take it all in and re look things over. I think I need to post what I was looking for. No one in this office has a Life/Health background. I am trying to figure how it all works plus place new business to grow my book. I guess what I was looking for is someone in this area to mentor me so I can learn the business the correct way. Thanks to everyone for their feed back.

Honestly, In my opinion this board right here can take the place of a local mentor.. I would pick up the phone book and find your local health insurance broker or independent agent, they will most likely have some clients that need "updating" or an "annual review". Im sure they would work out some kind of financial arrangement with you, that would at least keep you from having to go and work for the United Americans and Mega's of the world.

It wll all depend on what kind of appearance and attitude you approach them with though. Approach them like you would like to be approached if you were the successfull, established, veteran advisor.

I was wondering what to do with all these phonebooks. What's your address? I'll send them to you bookrate as they contain thousands of free leads along with phone numbers. Good Luck.

You need to go to physicians mutual , seriously. they have free leads and back you up on marketing and stuff. If you are in an office full of people who do not know life and health, go somewhere that is full of people who know life and health. maybe mutual of omaha or NYL or the new england. go somewhere -where they train you. If you need that sort of training.

I strongly recommend that you research local, regional and national organizations that can support you. If you put yourself out on a board like this, with a question like that, you will attract all organizations of which many may not be a fit for you. Do your research and be careful.
