Here's the story, it's pathetic:
The Associated Press: Mont. jury awards $850,000 in aluminum bat lawsuit
The operable quote from the story:
The teen's mother, Debbie Patch, was stunned by the verdict. The family rejoiced and cried as the verdict was read.
"We never expected it," she said. "We just hoped we could get the truth out for more people to see."
Patch said she hopes the decision will make more people aware of the dangers associated with aluminum bats and that more youth leagues will switch to using wooden bats.
"We just want to save someone else's life," Patch said.
I'm guessing that the baseball Nazi's came and took their kid away, and forced him to play baseball.
It is amazing to watch weak minded people try to turn personal tragedy into a "so our lives can have meaning" moment.
Why didn't they sue the league or team, weren't they the ones who chose the type of bat that could be used? Didn't they have the option to play with wooden bats?
I think baseball should switch to plastic bats and balls. Think of how much safer the game will be. And it will cost much less to mow the outfield with the home run fence staked at 50 feet from home plate.
Lousiville bats will now be sold under license agreement where purchasers have to sign legal waivers that hold the bat manufacturer harmless in the event that the bat is actually used.
And bartenders everywhere will need to make sure that the baseball bats behind their counters are wooden and not aluminum, now that aluminum bats have been determined to be a lethal weapon.
And given that the aluminum bat is a lethal weapon, was the kid who hit the ball licensed to carry an aluminum bat? And has that kid been put on trial for manslaughter?
