They are higher than 2013, but as usual, are "less than insurers wanted".

Marylanders who buy health insurance on a state exchange under health reform will see their premiums jump as much as 25 percent under rate increases approved by state regulators. - baltimoresun.com

Here's an excerpt from an "expert" who knows nothing about health insurance..and proves it with this statement...

"A lot of the lower rates (before 2014) have been a result of people having really poor coverage with high deductibles with really minimum coverage," said Vincent DeMarco, president of the Maryland Citizens Health Initiative. "Everybody is going to get full coverage now. When you have coverage with a $5,000 deductible, you basically have no coverage."

Hellooo! Mr. DeMarco..anybody home? The amount that an ObamaCare policy purchaser has to pay out-of-pocket for medical expenses is over $6,000, without even including your higher 2014 premiums. So you're saying that the people who purchase 2014 plans "basically have no coverage" either? Good grief dude.

Word today (7/29/13) is that a couple of the Maryland carriers are "reconsidering" whether to remain on the Maryland exchange. AETNA being one of them.

It turns out that the premiums were reduced By The State even lower than what the insurance carriers agreed to. Every insurance company in every state exchange will pay out more in 2014 in medical costs than they will receive in premium dollars. Accepting a 15% to 20% premium reduction that was imposed by the State of Maryland should be unacceptable to all of them.
