Last year Secure Horizons had a great plan in SC. They had a 400 copay at hopital and 2900 MOP. Anyone know if there is going to be a bigger player in SC/NC/GA area this year. I heard InStill is going to be good. Let me know if you guys have any insight into SC Med Advantage Plans.....
Three managed care companies that provide coverage for nearly two-thirds of the enrollees in Florida's Medicaid reform pilot program are ending participation in the program, according to Florida Health News. WellCare Health Plans Inc., Amerigroup Florida and UnitedHealthcare of Florida notified state regulators that they would no longer take part in the program as of Dec. 1, the news service reported.
WellCare (NYSE: WCG), based in Tampa, has two Florida Medicaid plans, HealthEase of Florida Inc. and WellCare of Florida Inc., which does business as Staywell Health Plan. WellCare dominates the Medicaid market in Jacksonville. WellCare has more than 43,000 members in Duval County, or about 55 percent of the market.
The termination letters didn't say why the plans were pulling out, but a spokesman for Amerigroup (NYSE: AGP) told Florida Health News that one reason is a 5 percent reduction in Medicaid payments to the reform plans scheduled to take effect on Sept. 1.
Under a contract with the state, companies have to give the Agency for Health Care Administration 90 days written notice of the pullout, and the affected enrollees get 60 days notice.
As of July, the two WellCare plans had combined enrollment of 83,131 and a combined 40.7 percent market share. Amerigroup's enrollment in the program was 13,600, with a 6.7 percent market share, according to AHCA. United (NYSE: UNH) had a 12.8 percent market share with 26,077 enrolled.
Thirteen other plans split coverage of the remaining 40 percent of the enrollees, the AHCA report showed.
The reform plan is in effect in Broward County in south Florida and Duval, Baker, Clay and Nassau counties in northeast Florida. There were a total of 204,431 enrolled as of July.
AHCA launched the pilot project in 2006 as a demonstration seeking to improve the value of the Medicaid delivery system. It requires most Medicaid recipients to enroll in a private plan that takes the financial risk for providing their care.
