Hey guys.

First off, this is a great forum and I would like to thank all of the vets that take the time to answer questions here. I have kind of been stalking you guys for a couple of weeks now TBH, I hope you don't mind. But that being said, there seems to be a lot of knowledgeable people here, and I'm glad I found it when I did. There is way too much BS floating around on the net and it can be frustrating trying to find a good piece of advice or information sometimes.

I just finished taking my class required before licensing this week and now just need to take the state exam to get licensing. I'm lined up to start with Physician's Mutual as soon as I get licensed. Although I have read good and bad on here about their health and what not, everyone seems to be happy with their training and I guess that is the most important thing for me right now.

My Aunt, Uncle and Grandfather have been with them for several years. My understanding is they had to tough it out for a year or two, but have done great since (75k+/year). That being said, obviously they have a decent relationship with the GM and all I had to do to get a foot in the door was get his cell phone number and tell him who I was.

Anyways, enough rambling and on with the questions:

Assuming that I can sell health with a different company if PM refuses a client, who would you recommend? I expect to have quite a few lower-to-middle income families I'm selling to, so I would like to find a good solution but possibly a discounted solution. Obviously a discounted solution isn't going to be the best, but I don't want Joe Blow to pay $xxx/mo for something that is doing absolutely no good.

Is it legal to go door-to-door and pass out flyers or something along those lines? If so, have you had good experience with it? I'm not exactly loaded, I do have several references already, but after that I definitely need to find some good, cheap (preferably free) ways of advertising. Any other suggestions would be more than welcome.

I will be working a second job for awhile until my income is looking stable. I have an 8pm-5am computer help desk job that I plan to keep as long as I have to in order to keep the lights on and the house in my name. How much do you think this will hurt my chances of success in the insurance biz?

With your experience, what would be the first 3 things you would have me do just starting off in the industry? What are 3 things you would tell me not to do under any circumstances?

Thanks!
