Unless there are specific requirements by the state, it is up to the carrier/insurance company. Most do.

Even if the carriers don't require it.. it's still really important that you have coverage.

You would be crazy not to have it. Like a surgeon not having malpractice insurance, things happen.

E & O should be considered essential to any agent selling P&C, without a doubt. Whether the insurance companies require it or not. I wouldn't operate without it!

Most P&C carriers won't even talk to you about getting appointed until you have E&O insurance. Rightly so.
