Dividing Prospect Amongst Agents Question

So my agency uses a source called datalister, and we each 'tag' a prospect with an assigned number, and that's how you get 'dibs' on that prospect. It splits up by SIC code, county, city, etc.. well the issue is that selfish people got on there and tagged everything they could find, day 1. So now, over a year later, we have no way of knowing if you're still calling on these prospects. It seems unreasonable to think that someone has dibs on a prospect that they haven't called on in 7 or 8 months, just because they were first to tag it on the website, a year and a half ago.

So what we're trying to do now is come up with a way for our agents to communicate better on what accounts we're still calling on, and how long before you lose your 'dibs' if you don't call them.

Anyone have any ideas or success stories? Thanks!

Our agency uses DataLister and I simply allow my two producers to choose which counties they want and go from there.

Of course, I would be curious to know how larger shops with multiple more producers do this.
