Leaving Captive in Texas

I have been working for a captive agent for the past 3 years and each year it gets harder to sell the products he has available based on rates. Looking to go independent and not sure how to proceed. I have read many of the threads am just unsure as to what is available in Texas. I really just want to be able to offer people a decent rate not based on one company's views.
So that being said is there a good way to go independent in Texas?
