HE reminded me that "POW" has really been McCain's sole distinction in life. First in his family in 3 generations not to make Admiral (retired a Captain), graduated 5th from the BOTTOM of his Naval Academy class.

Started his political career by leeching off the wealth of his 2nd wife, after he admitted to cheating on the first. He's been another hack politician now for over 25 years.

Another high-quality candidate...
Although those things have some truth it should be noted that his father the Admiral also graduated near the bottom of the class because they both wanted to fight rather than be academicians. Some of that is not all bad. Also, McCain probably did not advance in rank much when he was a POW. In addition, you can say that he was the first in three generations to not make Admiral but the final chapter has not been written yet. Commander in Chief is a fairly high rank if you think about it.

In regard to his sole distinction being a POW, I think that the folks in Arizona have decided otherwise. He has been a U.S. Senator for 20 years. It is a distinction of sorts, at least as much as many others who have been elected or considered. True, he is not experienced like Obama and Hillary.

I am not a McCain man but I dont have trouble giving him credit where credit is due and withholding it where it is not due. I think that if he had Osama in his sights he would kill him. I give him a couple points for that.

I have yet to see any candidate that has "wow-ed" me since I've been of voting agent. We get the cards and have to play and hand we're dealt.

For me, it is what is it. We have three to choose from right now and McCain is my pick.

I'm not a fan of just sitting it out if you're not glowingly in love with you candidate. We will be left with two choices and I will pick the best of the two - even if it's between dumb and dumberer.

Thank you, I think you make my point very eloquently.

Ted Kennedy has been a Senator forever, as was Strom Thurmond and Robert Byrd. Great statesmen?

Other than being implicated in the S&L scandal of the early 90's, what other significant accomplishment of McCain's can you point to during his 20 years as a U.S. Senator from Arizona?

As an aside, I can't believe the guy is stupid enough to say that he "welcomes" "W's" support. Talk about out of touch with reality...

I am a registered Republican. Obama. Landslide.

I am not convinced that Obama is going to get it despite all of my wishful thinking comments about Hillary being history. Not that I have had any major change in outlook. It is just that the press started going after Obama just a few days before the primary and I think it made a difference. If they keep that up, it will make more difference. Before they did that, I would bet on Obama. Now I think Hillary has at least a 50/50 chance. Hillary and the machine can handle manipulation of superdelegates and re-doing primaries very well. The machine will take care of that.

McCain is a dud but he could be running against the most divisive, baggage-laden woman in America. The risk to the Republicans is the massive vote that the Dems are going to get out even if McCain could get voter support evened up. A lot depends on the war, the price of gas, and the economy and what is going on the week of the election. If a whore promised to lower the price of gas twenty cents, she would probably get elected despite all of this heavy ideological talk voters get into. Or if al queda touches off a bomb here, people are not going to wake up and think geee I wish Obama were in the White House.
