I have been quite surprised to find that their are many fellow libertarians here on this forum. It seems to be quite a bit higher than the national average and I am curious is this is correct and what there may be about our demographics that makes us more likely to be libertarian.
I think that insurance professionals, as are most sales people who get paid for there productivity only, are for the most part "rebels". We like to do things our way, in our time frame w/o someone telling us how, when, where to do it. I for one believe you should be able to do anything you want to do as long as it doesn't hurt someone or the enviroment.

You're damn right!!!! I don't need no stinking laws.....
I always consider a Independent as a liberal who just doesn't want to admit it! Of course you could of put down "Progressive", it seems to be the new code word for liberals.

"Government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it." Ronald Reagan
I'm supposed to be Republican with core concept of "less government." Then I realize that the largest expansions of the federal government have come with Republican presidents. I guess I'm independent. And Ronnie ruled!!!

You hit the nail on the head John, the largest increases and all three branches (House,Senate,President) controlled by the republicans. Did they miss a golden opportunity here or what!!!They could not only slowed downed government spending but ROLLED BACK government. Let's dismantle the DEpt. of Education, let's privatize social security and let's tell the bureau of drugs, guns, an tobacco to GO TO HELL!!!
The largest expansion of the Federal Government came under Lincoln, Roosevelt and Johnson.
Federal role during the Civil War, agree or disagree many defend the idea of keeping the Union together. Yet the change of the Federal Powers started with Lincoln.
Social Security, Roosevelt, his "The New Deal", boy what a deal!
Medicare, Johnson's "Great Society".
Like Bush, Reagen had his problems but he was something Bush is not, that was a conservative leader. Hell, Bush isn't really a Reagen Conservative much or less a Buckley or Goldwater Conservative. Nor is he a leader of a movement, I do believe Bush is what he says a President of all the people as he sees his role. He never had what he stated originally, that was the desire to be a idealoque leader of a cause such as Reagen, the one lie he did perform. Hopefully one is in the works to emerge soon, but it is not Rudy, McCain or the Mormom.

I agree with every statement you said but I guess if you want to get technical, Thomas Jefferson is the first president to have to come to tasks with his own beloved constitution when ,without any known constitutional authority he purchased Louisiana from Napoleon. Then after Lincoln ,Stewart's Folly happened with Alaska. Being a Libertarian I sometimes have to come to grips with their philosaphy, such as open borders and turning over the public parks to private enterprise. I guess there is no such thing as a perfect anything.

Lousiana and Alaska, good points I wasn't going there probably since they turned out to be good deals. Lets face it, we have a tendency to dislike the things that didn't turn out good. Yet if my memory serves me correctly Jefferson made a good case of the Louisiana Purchase being within the power of the Presidency along with the approval of Congress.
Lol your right, I was just playing devil's advocate...he just had to act quickly even before he got approval because he was afraid some other power would buy it because Napoleon needed the money for his war against England( I think, my history is getting rusty lol)
