Does anyone know what company will accept a professional sports player? Client does not make much and actually has a job but plays in a professional sport. He is covered by their policy in case of an injury but needs coverage for dr visits for normal health issues.

What sport? The employer has no group health insurance? Seems kind of strange for a professional sport...

Color me ignorant, but I didn't realize there was a professional lacrosse league in the USA. Mind if I ask where you're located?

You got me curious enough to call a few of my companies. At least in Georgia, Golden Rule (United Health One) will consider your client for coverage. However, they won't cover any injuries sustained at an official practice or game. Since it looks like he's got supplemental coverage for that, you should be good to go!

He should be able to get coverage with anyone. Off the clock, he is the same as you. If his injuries occur on the pitch, it is a labor and industries issue and the league should have a policy for that or a team MD who'll treat for advertising costs.

I used to insure the Seattle Sounders players back in the day for off field with temp coverage for the season. Front office was on a group plan.

Not necessarily. Humana's underwriting guide specifically states "Professional or Semi-professional athletes" are ineligible for coverage.

Exactly. Many insurers won't take professional athletes of any kind. Some will only take professional golfers, bowlers, billiards players, etc.
