OK, it's time for me to walk the walk and not just talk the talk. I just got a price quote from Allstate (my current provider for Auto an homeowners) and was quoted 680 every six months for two cars. I go to progressive.com and get an instant quote and the price is half of what Allstate is offering for the same amount of coverage. Question is... Is Progressive a good company and is it worth giving up on Allstate? I was thinking with the savings of adding an umbrella policy as well as a term life on my wife and whole life on my kids. Thanks!

Something is wrong.... Okay, maybe insurance is just dirt cheap in New Mexico but....
In California, 2 cars covered for 6 months for half of 680 would be around 360 (slight error, making it simple on myself) meaning $60 a month or $30 per month per car.
Now, liability only, auto/home discount, low mileage, immaculate driving records, you can pull this off, maybe....
The Allstate premium is more in line with either an 'oops' on the driving record or comp/collision coverage on at least one car in a low rated area.
Personally, I think there is an error in the Progressive quote, but if not, I'd switch and become a statistic. I find it hard to believe this is an apples to apples comparison though.
I guess I need to be more detailed. My apologies. OK, the 680 included:
2 Vehicles, both payed for
1 Vehicle:
Collision/Comprehensive 500/100
100,000/300,000/100,000
Uninsured Motorist 20,000/250
25 dollars a day rental car
50 Dollar Tow.
2nd Vehicle:
Liability Only
100,000/300,000/100,000
Uninsured Motorist 20,000/250
50 Dollar Tow
Both drivers have no accidents and no tickets.
Grand Total: 681.00 every six months.
Got a quote from Allstate (current provider) for the following:

Uninsured Motorist 20,000/250
2nd Vehicle:
Liability Only
100,000/300,000/100,000
Uninsured Motorist 20,000/250
Grand Total: 520.00 Every Six Months
Progressive Quote:
1 Vehicle:
Liability Only
100,000/300,000/100,000
Uninsured Motorist 20,000/250
2nd Vehicle:

100,000/300,000/100,000
Uninsured Motorist 20,000/250
Grand Total: 330.00 Every six months.
Needless to say, I am amazed that there is that much of a difference. However, I really feel an obligation to stay with my current agent. I really like him. Any advice???
None of your quotes have "underinsured motorist" on them. This is important coverage for you and your family if the person who hits you does not have enough coverage to pay for the accident. I recommend that you have the same amount of "uninsured motorist" as bodily injury.
Yes something doesn't seem right PLUS what happens at claim time with allstate you can sit in front of an agent and the other company call 1-800-who's -this???
We have noticed a HUGE difference in prices in Minnesota from State Farm (current employer) to Progressive. They are always significantly lower! Not sure how they can get away with collecting so much less on premiums, but they do and we tend to lose a lot of clients to them- especially the younger people.
I also agree you should gave your current agent a chance to see if he/she can do better. What do you have to lose?
There are times Progressive can extremely cheap compares to other companies, I have seen it happen many times. Progressive is a great company now. Their claim process is excellent. I'm an independent agent, and I think Progress and Travelers are two great companies.
