Well, it just must be racism because the IOC just rejected Chicago's bid for the 2016 Olympics. It is quite shocking that the mesmerizing collective powers of Barack, Michelle, and Oprah couldn't pull it off. The Greatest Speechificator just didn't do it.

Oh well, plenty of things still to do. I think there's some sort of war going on somewhere. In fact, I beleive some generals had requested additional troops back in August, and according to the esteemed Mr. Gibbs, we have 'weeks' to wait for some sort of response from the WH.

Carry on.

Re: Public Humiliation             Go to Top

I don't know. If I was sitting on the committee listening to Michelle tell me what a personal sacrifice she had made to be there, I guess that would be a little bit of a sour note for me. Thumbs down.

All the talk about Obama being "too smart" to go over there and put his mojo on the line unless a deal had already been made was apparently not quite correct.

The Olympics, IMHO, have gotten to be a huge commercial racket that does not remotely reflect the original ideals. Anyway, the good news is that at least half the people in Chicago will welcome this news.

Guess Obama's parading around the world bad-mouthing the USA finally backfired. Wonder which side of his mouth this will be credited to?

Re: Public Humiliation             Go to Top

The Europeons don't like Americans - plain and simple. Their minds were already made up long before the Obamas showed up.

What is so funny is that Obama and his crew couldn't see the writing on the wall before he and the Mrs. made the trip. Talk about a public relations boon doggle. The guy has now had his first, very public, humiliating defeat. And the defeat comes in the world arena, where we were told that Obama would usher in a new age of understanding and reason with our international friends.

There is only one thing that the world community understands: peace through strength. And that has been the hallmark of American success for a century and this idiot and his ilk want to dismantle it - for what - world approval? Well how's that working for you?

Re: Public Humiliation             Go to Top

USA has had the Olympics 8 times, but the entire continent of South America has never been a venue -- so it's not surprising that Chicago lost. Personally, I give the President credit for at least showing up and trying to get another one for this country. That's more than Bush did in Sinapore for the 2012 games. Seems all he did Olympics-wise was to show up in China last year for a free vacation and to oggle the backsides of the women's volleyball team.

Of course, Obama will be severely criticized by by most posters here no matter what he does or doesn't do.

I don't remember Obama "parading around the world bad-mouthing the USA". Sounds like the figment of an unenlightened imagination. What the heck's that all about, stormtracker?

Well, I was thinking the Dark Side (a la Star Wars) but nowadays I bet that's racist, isn't it? Cest la vie.

Personally, I really like the Rio decision. If it were held in Chicago, I wouldn't bother going (I mean really, why? Already been there, done that. Nice city, but you can imagine how they would just screw the tourists.)

On the other hand, now I have a reason to visit Rio, and a reason to believe it would be safer for me to attend during the Olympics (think: heightened security), than going now.

Who else plans to purchase the Rosetta Stone Portugese software beforehand?

Re: Public Humiliation             Go to Top

Excuse me, Mr. Barney, but I believe since your B movie guy Reagan turned up in DC with his neo-con buddies -- that the USA has:

1. Gone from being the largest creditor nation on earth, to the largest debtor nation.

2. Gone from being the largest exporter of manufactured goods, to the largest importer.

3. Gone from being the largest importer of raw materials, to the largest exporter.

Right wing theories such as "free" trade, deregulation, and nation-building have proven to be real winners for this country, haven't they?

Speaking of "idiots", the last guy you right wingers put in the Oval Office did a wonderful job with "peace through strength", didn't he? Your go-it-alone, Lone Ranger and Tonto act cost us Constitutional subversion, a trillion dollars, 5,000 dead, an immensely strengthened Iran, and an absolutely destabilized the Middle East.

Well, how's that working for you?

With all due respect dude, have you not been listening to the speeches on foreign soil the last 7 months? NEVER has a president conducted such a policy of appeasement and cowling while in the audience of foreign crowds...

Oh, I bet if you look real closely in the audience through your Obamalenses, you'll see that GWB was in the audience at the IOC, and that's why they didn't vote for Chicago.

See? It's all George Bush's fault!

Re: Public Humiliation             Go to Top

Hey, Mr. Bill -- The last eight years of cowboy diplomacy has not worked really well in the opinion of many (few on this Forum would agree with that, of course).

So, our new President is trying something different -- called honesty. No more than American consumers are intelligent, perceptive, and usually know when they're being fed a diaper load -- the rest of the world isn't stupid either. We've made some serious mistakes, like all people and countries do, and for a change we are admitting that. Some would call it airing our dirty laundry in public...others would call it a breath of fresh air.

Will it work? Who knows. But, it can't work any worse than the neo-con antics of 10-gallon George and his gunslinger buddy, the Wyoming Dick. I hope you'll keep an open mind and give the man a chance. Obama's approach could all go in the tank, but not any deeper than our reputation on the planet already is.

Hope you are doing better than your claymation "Mr. Bill" namesake! If not, you should be praying for a public option.

Take care and good selling!

Mr. Bill, thanks for fingering GWB in the IOC audience. I thought I saw that little weazel there, but wasn't sure. His image is sometimes as transparent as his big oil energy policies were. Of course it's all his fault! I believe he started the AIDS epidemic too, while plodding his way through Yale. You are extremely perceptive.

Re: Public Humiliation             Go to Top

Atlantaguy: how can you even type honesty and Obama in the same sentence? I have never heard so many lies, even in a sea of lying politicians.

"I haven't really been following Acorn, didn't know they were getting any significant federal funds."

"The health care plan I propose will not raise taxes one cent and the cost will be covered by cutting waste and fraud from Medicare"

"The stimulus bill must be signed today or the worst crisis since the Depression will become a catastrophe".

"I will surround myself with competent people and look to people like Dick Luger and Paul Volcker for advice."

I could go on but I'm really just too disgusted. "I did not have sex with that woman" was at least amusing in a pathetic sort of way. The current guy is dangerous.

I don't think we never had much of a chance. We hosted in Atlanta and South American has never hosted.

Charpress, sorry you feel so bad about ideas that are time-tested to work. It must be like how I feel about neo-con cowboys testing theories on my dime, and never admitting that they don't work. At least you get some amusement from Clinton training the intern to be a cigar humidor. His creativity and the surplus that Bush squandered destabilizing the Middle East seem like the good ol' days.

Re: Public Humiliation             Go to Top

I've got to say, for all his low-class antics and parsing of the word "is", Clinton is looking good by comparison.

I didn't like George Bush much, but he is looking good too.

I didn't like Grover Cleveland much, but.....

Out of curiosity, what exactly is Obama doing or trying to do that is time-tested to work? Socialism? Raising taxes? Running small business out of business? This all worked great for FDR and kept us in the Depression until the Japs helped us out.

Cigar humidor. I like that one.

Yes.

Oddly enough, he's been on 4 reality tv shows that I know of. Two of them were dating shows (imagine that!), one was a relationship show with Brigitte Nielsson, you know, Sylvestor "Rocky" Stallone's ex, and the Surreal Life.

And why he always wears the clock? As a reminder that time is the most precious resource we all have (not certain that's exactly how he said it, though). He is right. Certainly not dating material for 99 44/100% of the population, but he is a man with 8 kids (or so).

Scary, huh?

The more timely question is "how is it working out for the majority that voted for President Obama because he promised change," People already know how to bitch about George Bush all by themselves. They dont need Obama for that.
