I guess not because I don't even know what death street letters are.

I mail community surveys (bulk mail lists) with about a 2.5% response rate.
Post service surveys (how did we do type questionnaire) with about a 50% response rate with about 20% of those interested in preplanning insurance.
Price increase notifications - When the funeral home has a price increase I do a mailing and get a huge response rate and close rate. Usually happens once per year. Gets people off the fence.
General database marketing- ACT with an automation program (Activator) My Activator program allows me to put all the "maybe someday" people on auto pilot. Keeps in touch with them and lets me know when to touch base again. Does the same for generating referrals from people I've already sold.
