Radiology Vs Pathology             Go to Top

Hey everyone,

I notice in one of the ibx plan brochures, they have a different policy for pathology vs radiology. in normal ppo plans these would be subject to deductible but the pathology listed in that plan is not, does anyone know the difference between pathology(i think lab) vs radiology (i think xray) and what scenarios one would need either?

Thanks

Both are diagnostic tools.

Pathology reviews tissue and body fluids.

Radiology is generally limited to X-rays, MRI, CT, PET, etc., but can also refer to radiation treatment such as for cancers.

You would have to see what they are referring to. Pathology and radiology refer to labratory diagnostic techniques and imaging etc. but it also refers to pathologists and radiologists who are physicians. So there could be a distinction in regard to whether it is the lab or imaging services or to the physican services associated with them.

Short answer: I don't know. Just saying what I would look for to help sort it out.
