No matter which side of the fence of the health-care debacle you sit on, we can all agree that our elected leaders should have to participate in the same plan or plans they are forcing upon us.

On Tuesday, the Senate health committee voted 12-11 in favor of a two-page amendment, courtesy of Republican Tom Coburn which would require all Members of Congress and their staff members to enroll in any new government-run health plan.

Congressman John Fleming has proposed an amendment that would require Congressmen and Senators to take the same health care plan that they would force on us. (Under proposed legislation they are exempt.)

Congressman Fleming is encouraging people to go to his Website and sign his petition. The process is very simple. I have done just that at:http://fleming.house.gov/index.html .
Please urge as many people as you can to do the same!

Senator Coburn and Congressman Fleming are both physicians.

Regardless of your political beliefs, it sure seems reasonable that Congress should have exactly the same medical coverage that they impose on the rest of us.

I tried to post my feelings and I got an error that "there are too many people accessing the Web site at this time."

Please keep trying.

Can you imagine it only passed by a 12-11 margin? Bastages, all of them.

Anyway, pass this along.

While in Mexico last week, I talked to a local bartender (go figure). He certainly wasn't wealthy, he actually praised the public option in Mexico. He said it's great for the routine type of issues and when there is a good specialist on staff for certain conditions. If no specialist exists, they pay out of pocket where possible.

Members of Congress will be wealthy enough to get the top notch care if the wait is too long or the care isn't up to par, so I think it will be a relatively mute point although I agree from a philosophical view.

Yeah, but so what?
Even if they signed up for a "public plan," that doesn't mean they would have to use it.
