I am considering relocating from the D/FW area to Amarillo. What is the market like there, and is it saturated like here?...

It's called the Big Texan. I sure hope tumbleweeds need coverage...

Big Texan Free 72oz steak

Yeah! I tried to eat that thing once. Didn't quite make it, but I still have the t-shirt. You can watch people try and eat it on the webcam.

I'd market away from there - nothing but high cholesterol for a twenty mile radius, I'd bet.

Are you suggesting guaranteed-issue territory? Problem with the 72 oz'er, you have to eat EVERYTHING-- salad, baked potato and roll...

Does stomach rupture count as a self-inflicted ailment or injury?

It would come under the suicide clause during the first two years... I read that the record for consuming that entire feast was just over 8 minutes-- you can see it on the website.

When I tried it, it was:

72oz steak

Roll

Baked potato

Salad

Shrimp cocktail

I got through all the side dishes and 63 ounces of the steak in 45 minutes. Then...

Well, I didn't finish. They try to trick you, you know - when you first come in there's a display of a "sample steak" sitting by the door to show you what you'll be facing if you try. That thing is about half the size of the true steak.

Why?

I grew up in that area and it feels like the middle of nowhere...

It's really not that bad... definitely much less to do than DFW... many people are close-minded, and everyone votes Republican...

This all could be good or bad depending on the person you're talking to.

As far as insurance, it depends on what you're selling. BCBS is very competitive on the health side. If you're willing to work in the rural towns, you will do pretty well with most insurance lines.

But, competition is pretty fierce and there's not a huge population in the Panhandle.

If there's anything specific I can answer, let me know.

Re: Relocating to Amarillo             Go to Top

Well, I am considering going captive with Reliable, or some other home service outfit to get my feet on the ground. I am supposing that there is no MA market there? I see that Physician's Mutual is strong, along with MOO. We bought a house a couple of weeks ago and we could not believe the housing market-- they think they are Highland Park or something...

Don't get me wrong... Amarillo is a great place to live if you're white, Christian, Republican and think everyone else should be.

You'll also love Amarillo if you enjoy sub-zero weather in the winter and snow, constant wind, and 100+ degree summers.
