Conservatives roar; GOP trembles - Yahoo! News

I'm too young to remember Billy Sunday or Father Conghlin or even much about Joe McCarthy, but as I like to say... "What's old... is new." (I do remember "Take a walk" Joe Pyne on the radio in the mid-60s.)

Many top Republicans are growing worried that the party’s chances for reversing its electoral routs of 2006 and 2008 are being wounded by the flamboyant rhetoric and angry tone of conservative activists and media personalities, according to interviews with GOP officials and operatives.

***

Without a good slice of the independents, we are doomed,” said former House Minority Leader Bob Michel (R-Ill.).

***

The only Republicans standing up to Beck and other conservative activists right now are familiar iconoclasts like Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) and New York Times columnist David Brooks — both of whom are distrusted by many Republicans for their frequent departures from conservative orthodoxy.

Oh, Lindsey Graham is standing up to Republicans like Limbaugh and Beck. Here's your Mr. Graham:

The problem is that there are a few others that Lindsey is finding that he has to stand up to as well. They're not too happy with him either (count me in):

Rick will like this one:

Lindsey's having trouble with the home town folks:

Then there is this commentary:

Lindsey Graham Climate Dance with the Democrats - HUMAN EVENTS

And the key point is this. In 2008 Republicans chose a Republican candidate who was precisely the Republican that we were told would appeal to the middle. Right - he got none of it. Because when you offer up "Democrat-Lite", you end up with people voting for the Democrat instead.

By contrast, Reagan attracted the "middle" by setting out a clear, conservative message. Why did that work? Because MOST of the people in this country are conservatives. Why? Because this country was/is rooted in conservative ideaology. The Constitution IS a conservative document, it is NOT a liberal or socialist document. That's why liberals have to pack the courts with liberal judges, to get people in positions where they can change the meaning of the plain words of the Constitution.

Now these "in the middle" folks have been told by liberal propaganda that conservatives are BAD people, their racists, they hate old people, etc., etc., etc. Many, who have not looked into it or made up their minds for themselves, don't want to be labeled conservative. But that doesn't change the fact that they are instinctively conservative - which is understandable because it is in their American DNA.

You get the votes of those people when you offer a clear, simple conservative message versus the liberal double speak that is served up by most Democrats and wingnuts like Lindsey Graham and his friend John McCain.

Top Republicans? That's an oxymoron. There are no top Republicans right now. The top conservatives in this country are on the radio and TV.

It is interesting though when you stop to think about it there really are not that many top Democrats right now either. The dems have a messiah/superstar at the head of the ticket and that is beyond dispute but it often obscures the fact that they are pretty sparse below that as well. Hillary is out of the mainstream. Teddy is gone. Pelosi and Reid are really position holders that people acknowledge and work with because they have to but nobody out there in mainstream America knows about them or cares about them.

Thats part of the dilemma that the dems have now. The messiah can get away with things that congress and the senate cannot. He goes out to a town meeting and they love him so he orders them to do the same and they go out and get clobbered and threaten to vote them out.

The dems waste no time pointing out the fact that the repubs are in disarray. Hey, they are the ones with the majority everywhere yet have to go around with a begging bowl to try to find at least one repub vote to compensate for the fact that their own party wont hang together.

Yeh, I guess I forgot about him.

I also forgot that they are recruiting fresh new faces to be leaders of the future, such as Arlen Specter.
